Is it possible to create glass weapons? I tried adding [GLASS_GREEN], [GLASS_CLEAR], and [GLASS_CRYSTAL], but it didn't work. Is there a tag for gem material?

I'm pretty sure that the stuff you can make at the glass furnace is hard-coded, so you can't make weapons there, but you should be able to do it as a reaction at the smelter, if that's what you meant? I can't think what the appropriate matgloss tokens are at the moment, so I'll have to look it up, but I'm sure that somebody else will be able to give you an answer.

If I make a smelter reaction, I won't be able to use the weapon in adventure mode, but it looks like there's not much choice.

EDIT:
Well, I won't spawn in with the weapon, I mean.

Pity the smelter seems to be the only place you can actually mod stuff in.

Aye, but that won't last forever.

That's not your usual glass.  It's closer to obsidian actually. (which is already in game)

Could be like the glass weapons from the last crappy Ultima game they made. The glass weapon was only good for one attack but when you stabbed the enemy it shattered inside of them and caused massive damage. It'd be cool to be albe to use glass to make glass globes and fill them with acid or something to make bombs or traps :P

Glass is only weak because most of the time, we find it in thin sheets. A solid mass of glass would be strong enough to last, as long as it isn't too thin. A glass dagger or shortsword would probably be more useful then a metal one. Though anything larger then that would be a useless piece of junk that breaks all the time. And trying to repair it would be hell.

So you need to have stuff made out of some kind of metal for you to start with it in adventure mode?
Then how about this:
1) make a new metal on the base of iron and call it metallic glass or somesuch
2) make a smelter reaction that turns regular green glass into that metal
3) make stuff out of that metal. Done.

If you give me a few moments I can try it and post all the code if it works.

Edit: moved to post below

I suppose if you were to create a thick enough layer of glass, it could stand up to some punishment.  But it might be a bit cumbersome with the mass required to make it effective.

It'd still look pretty awesome though...

As for swords, a diamond blade would be far more effective.  Not to mention damn cool.

EDIT: Oh, hey, just thought of something.  What if you made a smelter reaction that turned several different metals along with some other special reagents into a bar of supernatural metal?  You could make a Mini-Mjolnir.

Works on first try! Here's how I did it:
code:
[MATGLOSS_METAL:GLASS_TEMPERED]
[NAME:tempered glass][ADJ:tempered glass][COLOR:0:7:1]
[VALUE:50]
[SPEC_HEAT:450]
[MELTING_POINT:13180]
[BOILING_POINT:13760]
[WEAPON][WEAPON_RANGED][AMMO][DIGGER][ARMOR]
[DAMAGE_PERC:200]
[BLOCK_PERC:200]
[SOLID_DENSITY:2650]

Edit damage/block percentages as you please. Value of 50 makes it appear on the embark screen instead of steel and should apply to adventurer gear in the same fashion.
code:
[REACTION:GREEN_GLASS_TEMPERING]
[NAME:temper green glass]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:1:ROUGH:NO_SUBTYPE:GLASS_GREEN:NO_SUBTYPE]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:GLASS_TEMPERED]
[FUEL]

The wiki says ROUGH may be obsolete, but I didn't see the game complaining. Works like a charm. Enjoy glassweaponsmithing.
