Manual stone selection
« on: December 16, 2007, 01:35:00 pm »

Well, since the mineral-enabling portion of the effect of my hotfix is no longer needed in the latest version, I'll put this here for the additional effect it turned out to have.

Add this to the reaction_standart.txt file in raw/objects. Remove the last line if you do not use my mod.

The effect is all listed stone (ergo, all existing stone) being counted as economic - thus, available for selection and deselection in the Stones menu. The reaction itself is impossible and useless, so it has no name to never show up (as a line, anyway) in the Reactions lister of the said menu.

I hate to respond over a year later, especially because it's likely been answered before.  But for the life of me, I can't find the answer with the search, nor through browsing.

I like this.  But it doesn't seem to work in the latest version.  But maybe I'm just modtarded.

Do you have to regen your world when you make new reactions?  Or is it a conflict with the new version[40d6]?

You have to at least start a new fort, but probably you have to generate a new world. If you would only change an existing reaction into this, you would not need to regen, but adding new reactions requires a fresh start.

And really - Holy Thread Resurrection, Batman! You could at least have checked my Minerals mod, it has this function included and isn't as old. Other projects have since incorporated it as well.

You have to generate a new world for this. Also the resurrection is good because it's a useful mod which can help some people.

I can't seem to find the reaction_standart.txt file in raw/objects (or anywhere else, or reaction_standard.txt).  I'm running DF 0.28.181.40d on my Macintosh and really would like to have better control over the use of stone in my fortress.  Am I doing something wrong?  Or is there an alternative?

I'm not sure what differences are there between the PC and Mac versions, but in any case there should be .txt files in the raw/objects folder, and among them should be one that begins with "reactions_". This is what you should be editing.

There isn't.  I guess the Mac version is kinda different in this way.

Is there a string that is specific to the reactions file that I could search for elsewhere in the raw/objects folder?

Well, yeah, [OBJECT:REACTION]. The [SMELTER] tag is unique to those raws as well. Do you have any sort of raws in the folder?

Uh, I just downloaded the mac version and found reaction_standard.txt with no problems. Are you sure you are looking in the right folder?

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

I was pretty sure I was looking in the right folder (and I used Mac's Spotlight to search the drive for the file and came up dry).  I re-downloaded DF and found that I was missing a significant number of files from /raw/objects along with reactions_standard.txt.  To be honest, I'm slightly surprised I could play the game at all.

I suspect that I somehow clobbered those files when I was installing Ranting Rodent's graphic pack.  I'm working on getting a clean(er) install now, which will probably work all around.  Thanks for your patience.

Yeah. Macs have issues with copying folders over one another. Namely that they erase the old contents rather than just overwriting individual files. User friendly, indeed.
