World generator Theme
« on: December 08, 2007, 12:55:00 am »

Is it possible to mod the world generator so as to set an overall "theme" to the generation.

For example, Ice Age where the vast majority of the regions are glacial/snow covered.  Post-Apocalyptic where the vast majority of the regions are dry desert with very little water.  Prehistoric where NOT having a sprawling jungle is rare and volcanos are all over the place.  Etc, etc...

Nope, can't mod stuff like that... yet, although you could probably change other things to get closer to the theme you desire.

Not Currently, though the hope is that this sort of thing will be possible in the future.

If seeds were anything like passwords (from NES-like "consoles"), it would be possible to hack them and make the worldgen produce anything you like.

Alternatively, Toady should jury-rig a "yes I want this world" option for the clinically bored. It would stop generation when a world is about to be rejected, specify the reason for it, and allow the player to look at "what's been created so far" and give a yea or nay to go ahead and use this world anyways. Assuming this doesn't lead to the rest of the generation process crashing in the process, of course. And of course, present only as an init option.
