Adding new creatures to existing world

Hello,

I'd like to know if editing the raws to add new creatures will affect an existing fortress game.

Say I create a fennec (a kind of fox) and tag it with savanna biome, will it show up in my current fortress (which is on a savanna biome) as any other savanna wildlife ? Will it not show until a generate a new world ? Will it crash the game ?

Gotta generate a world. Nothing bad will happen tho, no crash.

It works this way: it pupulates the map with the creatures you have in the start of world. gen and then shift their amount someway.
So you'll need to regenerate the world.

But if you heavily want some kind of creature and don't mind to lose 1 type of the bear, you can change it's raws to represent another creature (but better leave biomes as they are).

I was thinking of copying the raws of the normal fox and pasting them in the creature_large_tropical.txt , changing the creature name  to Fennec and the biome.

Deon, why do you advise against meddling with the biomes ?

I generally create whole new files for modding purposes. It's always worked for me. I never replace or delete other creatures unless I'm downsizing the mod.
