Trying to add a race

I've got these random harrower creatures. They are based on Nyarlathotep  :p

This is the file I've added to the raws.

I've been over it multiple times and I can't see why they arn't showing up in adventure mode. I added the tags to the goblins and they showed up.

I'd appriciate a second look and a second opinion.

It looks fine for a first look...
But make sure that if you put this in custom txt files make sure that the files have their names in the 1st raw (i.e. creature_standard, entity_default etc.). Also lok in your main folder, is there an errorlog.txt file? Check it. And if it still isn't working send me your full raw/objects folder, I'll look into it.

Also do you want to make them friendly? Lovecraft creatures were a bit... hostile? =)

You misspelled "visage" in the prefstring.

And how are you basing them on Nyarlathotep?

Okay, tell me if I am doing this right. I don't have a custom folder, I just dropped it into dwarffort/raw/objects

I'm guessing this is not what I was supposed to do? Also what do you mean by the first raw?

Also, I have checked the error logs. The only thing I can see that might be related (most of the others are failed paths etc) is :

Unrecognized Metal Token: WEAP50

Thanks for the typo, though that's just a prefstring so it shouldn't be causing errors. And they're based on one of his forms, three legs, eyes in the palms of his hands, tentacle head   :)

Yeah it looks fine. But it's in direct conflict with the dwarves, per site placement preference. Check the history logs and see if they died out or not.

Or do you mean they don't appear as PlayNow?

Not play now, not play anything. Yet Adding the indv_controllable and adventure teir tags to the goblins let me play one with skills.

He started with no weapons and armor and got eaten by ice wolves, but that's besides the point.

These are just a super quick knockup anyway to see if I could get them to work, with bits scavanged from all around. In that regard I need to fiddle  the favourite sites as suggested to stop them popping up in the same places as dwarves. At the moment I'm just trying to persuade them to show up as a civ in some shape or form.

If I make them the evil grouping will that mean they start getting seiges from elves and dwarves and trade with goblins or will they just start to attack other colonies?

Waitwait....  Do you mean you added just this one file to the raws???

I'm afraid that even if I complete my mod development proggie, you'll have to split your raws into files, by type of entries it contains. Also, the file should begin with a word corresponding to the type.

So, put the entries containing the bodyparts into a body_testbeast.txt, the creature itself into a creature_testbeast.txt, and the entity into an entity_testbeast.txt, and make sure the first line of each file is its name without an extension. Don't forget the [OBJECT:stuff] entries too.

Also when you mean [OBJECT:stuff] bits, do I have seperate them out into every single type like they are in the raws, or does a single file for ITEM work?

Every file must have its name in the first line, and an [OBJECT:xxx] entry before all others, with 'xxx' being one of the basic types - ENTITY, CREATURE, BODY, MATGLOSS, etc.

Right, thank you for clarifying that.

I got them in! I ended up adding the various chunks to the default files and I tweaked the biomes too, having them prefer ruins and like wetlands areas and whatnot. I did apparently get a harrower town somewhere, but the end result was a 'play now'

I started with a nude, skill-less harrower and went on a rampage, murdered the mayor, lashed a few peasants to death and eventually got cornered by a guard.

Still having a couple of issues with them.

1) There's no way to play a 'harrower from x' with skills, grr. They're not even coming up as 'play now' since I made them a playable civ.

2) They don't, according to the starting screen, trade at all. While that suits me fine for the moment, what is causing this?

Their physical characteristics are based on one of Nyarlathotep's forms, the massive three legged beast with a tentacle for a head and eyes in the palms of it's hands. They arn't him though, they're way too small and weak for that.

If you don't have a "xxx of yyy" option then it means that they were not spawned during the worldgen.
