5 pages of topics and not a single sub-category?

Here's some suggestions:

Stone, Gems and Ore
Weapons and Seige
Design
Maps
Jobs
Creatures, Animals and Enemies
Food
Water and Magma
Stories
Modding and Tilesets
Bugs

Any ideas?

Five pages isn't really that big especially when you consider they've been around for a year or so.   That, and I don't think there's that many threads about many of the things you've talked about- like rocks or ore.   There's already a bug subforum, and the general discussion threads work well for stories.

I think the forum is organized enough as it is, and I'm sure if a big need for anything arose, Toady'd sort it out.   No need to fret about things until there's a problem, really.

Not a single subcategory?

Message Board.

I count 7 for DF, though not so specific as you describe.

Well, I wouldn't call it fretting... I suppose I'm just a bit anal. I think it would help a noob like me find the right answers to a specific question a bit quicker than sifting through the pages, that's all. Just a suggestion, really. A friendly one, at that.  :)

I can't sort things any further with UBB in any case.  These are subcategories in some sense -- you can see that the forum has 4 main categories, of which Dwarf Fortress is one.  Perhaps you want subsubcategories.

Sub-categories are annoying when they're not going to be used.   Right now, a single thread on Jobs or crafting or whatever could suffice.  General stuff that is simple and clean is better than niche stuff you have to pick through.

I don't think you're subdividing enough! Every type of ore and rock and such needs its own subcategory!

I call mod of the Diorite forum. I shall made certain it is lovingly kept full of news and information on Ronnie James Dio.

If each noble gets a forum, I call Queen.

If not, I'll just settle for the Mercury subforum in Metals.

(You DO know there's a 'search' function at the top right of the screen...)

Sure. And that works just fine, if you don't mind 50 clicks of the mouse to find the answer to your question. As a test, I looked up the word 'gems' in the search function, and got back 20 or so possible instances of the word in one subcategory alone. I'm talking about making things a bit more organized, that's all. I don't see why it would be a big deal.

Yes. Obviously I look there first, or I ask in #bay12games. Similarly, there is a need for questions to be asked or subjects to be brought up because there's at least 5 pages of content (30+ topics per page) for each subcategory. When the new release comes out, I'm sure that number will triple. Why not beat it to the punch?

Aha, so you admit that they are subcategories, thus re-validating the counterargument! Game over.
