Refilling Ponds?
« on: March 02, 2008, 09:23:00 pm »

Are there any utilities for the current version that refill ponds?  I'm out of water, and my farming industry is declining, my dwarves are gonna start dying of thirst soon.

You need water to farm if you don't have a soil layer. Or has it magically changed so that plump helmets grow on stone?

I flooded a cave once with water, made a plot and the mud hasn't dried up in two years (although non-farm mud has).

Eventually, farm plots on stone can change to say that there are no crops that can grow there, which usually is fixed by throwing more water at them. When that happens, though, is still up in the air.

I prefer areas with a soil layer myself, however my husband has had a couple fortresses where he has had to water his fields every couple years because they were too dry to plant anything on. Perhaps this depends on the general temperature of the map but it does make having a water source rather vital to farming.

The decline is kind of inexplicable, they're just making less and less food lately.  It has nothing to do with the lack of water, and is just another stressor that will probably lead to the collapse of my fortress if I can't find a utility to refill my ponds.
