Interesting space idea
« on: March 18, 2008, 06:10:00 am »

Recently I've been getting into future space theme'd books and what not, and an idea cross my mind. What if dwarves could go into space on a gigantic rock spaceship? Sure this is all fine and dandy with the vanilla engine (just carve a space ship out of the cliff face or soemthing and pretend the unexplored squares is space and the little white icons are stars  :)), but what would really be missing would be a lack of gravity. So, another idea crossed my mind. What if you could make the dwarves fly to simulate the lack of a substantial gavitational force?

Dwarves do not fly.  Period.

They suffer panic attacks whenever they're higher than a few feet off the ground, and will starve to death in mid-air.

i like it. To bad we don't have fine control over some aspects, it would be awsome if you could make a super cold enviorment outside and you can make a super warm "space suit" to use that would cancel out the cold effect.

Well, you can make a plant or metal that has a high fixed temperature (but not too high), and then settle on a glacier or something, with clothes made from that material.  It might work.

You'd still have to deal with forging, dyed cloth, weapons, digging, wagons, and a few other interesting aspects.

For wagons, I suppose it's possible to just create some robotic creature that can carry a lot of goods, and then have the traders leading those instead of wagons, since you can't do anything with wagons.

Spaceships would have to be made of adamantine. It's the only thing light and strong enough. And if it can keep demons confined, it's also airtight enough.

Psh, real spaceships are made of Styrofoam and duct tape.
Dwarven ingenuity could totally design a spacefaring vehicle made of rocks.

Thank you, good Sir.  You have just made my night.

...And, I should add, slightly scalded my nasal passages.  Snarfing coffee is never good.
