Edible?
« on: March 13, 2008, 08:33:00 pm »

I am trying to get certain creatures to drop skin and meat.

The creatures in question do not have the [BUTCHERABLE_NONSTANDARD], [NOSKIN], or [NOMEAT] tags. but for some reason they can not be used. And they do have the [STANDARD_FLESH] tag. What tags do I need to add/remove to get these guys to provide food and skin for my dwarves.

Oh, if anyone is wondering the creatures in question are goblins...

What tokens do they have right now?

Nothing can "drop" skin or meat; they're a byproduct of butchering.

Your dwarves would need to be set to (O)rders / refuse / gather refuse outside, probably, to bring the corpses to a stockpile to trigger a butcher job.

If they're STANDARD_FLESH, and do not have BUTCHERABLE_NONSTANDARD or NOT_BUTCHERABLE and, the corpse is on a stockpile, and it still can't be butchered.. the next thing to try would be to add PET or PET_EXOTIC. Only thing I can think of.

First, replace [INTELLIGENT] with [CAN_LEARN][CAN_SPEAK].  There's supposedly a problem with intelligent creatures being eaten.

I can't fathom why though.  Considering this is a game that will eventually provide the ability to strangle someone with their own entrails, simple cannibalism seems perfectly within limits.

hmm, that might be it, my dwarves never did collect the gobbo bodies and place them in refuse. I'll have to do some more testing to see if this is the issue or the intelligent tag.

That's quite scary, but, why the hell she likes giant moles for their noses?

I could be wrong, but I personally haven't had any particular problem butchering anything, including the intelligent races, and I haven't removed intelligent form them...

Yes, having done some serious play. the issue was that I wasn't collecting bodies. My dwarves are now decked out in goblin leather armor, I have not yet spotted goblin meat in my pantry but it is definately produced by butchering them. It either gets eated before I can look for it (quite likely as my meat averages less than 20 so far) or they don't put it in the stockpile it.

update: indeed my dwarves do not mind the taste of goblin. Waste not, want not.

However, they do not eat their own dead (I removed [BUTCHERABLE_NOTSTANDARD] from all the creatures in the same file as goblins). perhaps because dead dwarves go on the graveyard stockpile instead of the refuse stockpile?

That'd be my guess. Get rid of the graveyard stockpile and see what happens.

I have tried, even built a refuse stockpile under a dead dwarf. No luck. I guess dwarves just are not cannibalistic enough. I do not particularly mind. The focus of my experiment was to be able to eat goblins and the occasional elf.
