number of starting dwarves...
« on: March 12, 2008, 11:27:00 pm »

autoadjust.exe is not working with the latest version apparently, so is there another way to start the game with fewer dwarves?  I'd like to get this to work to make the game more challenging, also to give it a bit of an adventure mode feel(starting with only one dwarf) with the capability of construction.

Sounds like a fun challenge, having to build a fortress with just 1 dwarf to start.

Unless you give them [NO_EAT], [NO_DRINK], and [NO_SLEEP], of course.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I actually find 1 dwarf to be easier than 7. The problem is when immigrants come.

Anyhow, I tried looking for this myself, and my admittedly unskilled attempt to find the memory address for this stuff turned up empty.

Heh, it may be easier to just sustain a single dwarf, but getting him to do anything bigger and better than that is a bit tricky.  Especially if you happen to get his hand broken and had to forbid his bed so he wouldn't starve himself to death, waiting for a nurse that isn't there to bring him some food.

Two might work good, since if one gets injured, the other can at least help him.

Although it isn't quite the same   :p

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

Try this memory address, Caliburn's post toward the bottom: http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=next_topic&f=11&t=002148&go=older

No idea if it works but it's worth a shot, aye?

Damn, anything less that 4 dwarves results in a big crash in my face.   :(

I find it's a little more interesting to have one productive dwarf and a couple slackers. The whole lone dwarf thing is cool in principle, but tedious in execution.
