Are two shields better than one?

I was after an undead king when I ran into a zombie. My spear got lodged in the zombie, and subsequently disappeared when the zombie died. We were approaching a tower when an arrow struck down one of my fellow adventurers. I picked up his shield and continued on. By the time I made it to the top of the tower all four of my comrades were dead, and I was unharmed, even though the undead king had taken several shots at me. Was it the second shield that helped? Or was I just very lucky?

I was quite pleased at killing the king, he had killed my previous adventurer before I even saw the tower.

2 shields are only good if they are spiked :)

Having given my dwarves an extra phantom limb for no good reason, I've noticed fully equipped dwarves (two shields plus a weapon) are nigh-invulnerable until they start passing out from exhaustion.  I had a couple recruits that tangled with an elephant herd for at least a week before they finally died (sadly, they only killed one, though they maimed a second).  It could've just been a fluke, I suppose, but I'm pretty sure two shields is double the fun.
