Post-Legendary Advancement?
« on: November 27, 2007, 07:14:00 pm »

I noticed that after hitting 2000/2000 in wrestling (after reaching Legendary), the skill keeps rolling over at 2100, 2200, etc.

Do these extra rollovers have any game effect, or does it cap out at Legendary?

It gives you some extra stat attributes "Ultra-Mighty, Very Agile, etc", but no actual advancement.

there will be no skill increase but your stats will rise, even if that doesn't display.

It was known in 23a. You can see it here, scroll down to "incresing skills".

from what i read in the wiki, there are several skills beyond legendary that are still called legendary

for a distinction, just call them legendary+1/+2/+3 whatever

For instance, you don't get to the point where sneaking is the same speed as not sneaking until legendary +5ish ambusher

There are skill levels above legendary, though they have no names. it goes up to 5 more skill levels, so 'Legendary+5' is the max. Even after you hit the max, you still gain skill points which go to increasing stats.

As for stats, I'm not sure. I *think* I read somewhere that stats go up past 'ultra-mighty' 'perfectly agile' and 'superdwarvenly tough' but it's alot harder to tell so I can't be sure.

I don't think legendary +5 is max, same for stats. Maybe Toady could tell us?

Attributes aren't capped, but certain affects (like speed bonuses) are capped at the fifth level.  Things like damage bonuses from strength just keep going up.

Skills are the same way -- they can up to 3000000 (legendary is 15), but for many applications, the effective cap is much lower.  For most combat skills, there are effects up to 3000000 (since it is just opposing rolls, more or less), but for many crafting applications, 15 is where it stops mattering.  Later it can do more, for instance if it is comparing masterpieces and so on.  It tracks the specific skill of the maker on the item itself, so there's a start anyway, but there's much more to be done.

Hmmm... Have you considered using some smaller data type, nobody is going to get more than 256 skills or attributes anyways so a char would really do, but you probably already considered this, I'm a dabbling programmer and I should not brother the Great Toad whit my uneducated speculations, it probably takes one unit of something anyways or there are so little memory usage for skills that this would need a rewrite to save like 3 bytes of RAM, if so never mind.
*hurts self for implying that the Great Toad had not taken everything into consideration*
