This doesn't bode well

The first message I recieved upon starting a new adventurer was "The tentacle demon pulls out and drops the bronze pick"

I looked at the map and found that I was at Chaosblazes, my failed fortress that was overun by demons.

Do "Play now!" characters always start at an abandoned fortress?
