how do you play as a fire spirit? I can only start as humans, dwarves, or elves.

Earlier today I took a arrow to the brain that passed into my brain, after which I nearly bled to death.  And then I lost both legs to a zombie axeman.  My drunks had him tangled up, so I managed to escape around a corner and travel to the world map.  Now I have to recruit more cannon fodder  :confused:
