How do I change weapon and shield?

I cannot figure it out.. Tried 'r'emoving worn items. Tried 'w'earing them...

Try [d]ropping the weapon/shield, then [w]ear the one you want.  After that, just [g]et the stuff you dropped.

Ooh, I'm getting the hang of this now.  :) (except for the dying in extremely painful ways all the time) haha, I love adventure mode!

Are you sure 'w' works for weapons and shields?  I'm pretty sure that wielding weapons and shields is an automatic process when you pick it up (aka, that all you need do is drop the old shield/weapon [and the new one, if necessary] and pick up the new weapon/shield).
