Revenge!
« on: January 08, 2008, 11:56:00 am »

Over the course of the last 3 days one single Giant Cave Spider has single handedly destroyed more of my characters than any other. He was named Cackledspar and if you look on my legends screen he has killed over ten dwarves (only 2 of them my own, the rest were a bunch of drunks, a lasher, a mace man, and a cross bow man)
So I kind of want revenge and come back with a hammer dwarf with a bit of skill and better understanding of the game. When I find Cacklespar he actually anounced himself, declaring all the dwarves he killed. This actually frightened me (in real life not my character!) Some how I got close enough to it to avoid getting webbed and my first hit smashed it's main body piece hard enough to explode it! Kind of easy but still very worth it! After that I went on down into the rest of the cavern and killed the Ettin I was sent to kill with my last two adventure teams :P Then, just to rub it in I've started a dwarf fortress of the site of the cave and I've been crafting goods out of the dead cave monsters bones ect lol.

The spider announced himself? It wasn't for a quest even? For real? That's interesting. I'm going to have to send a bunch of of adventurers to meet their doom and see this for myself..

lol at crafting stuff from his remains.

I've only seen a spider announce himself for a quest... the fun part was that I got the quest because the spider had killed my previous adventurer. Are you sure you didn't have a quest for the spider, and just forgot about it?

Another odd thing is that the spider doesn't really announce himself, it just says

quote:
Giantspider stands before you!
Giantspider...<killed>
Giantspider...<killed>

...or something like that. I guess because spiders can't talk.

Yeah ma'am see the problem you have is you've got roof wolves. They're pretty common round here sometimes. The only thing I can do in this case is put a puma statue up there and hope it scares them off.
Whats that ma'am? You want me to shoot them?

I had a quest to kill an Ettin and he announced himself like that. He said I was gonna die ect. But this was like

<spiders> stands before you, he has killed so on and so forth FEAR ME! :P So I smashed his head in

That epic adventureur died last night when I went into a human capital town and got wasted by a lucky shot from a mace lord ;P He went down in my history as a horrible slaughterer of all beings. He killed off two human villages, most of two goblin forts, and that cave before I got pinged off. Was just really lucky because most of the people were children and unarmed civilians. Didn't have to fight a single archer! Any hooooo, I wasn't on a quest for that spider no, I was on a quest for an Ettin.

Named creatures known to the major civilisations announce themselves always, quest or no. Once I revisited a kobold cave, after another adventurer died in a massive brawl in it. I didn't have a quest, I just went in there (with a complement of swordsmen) to slice things up. So, after some fighting, I'm confronted with a kobold CHILD that announces himself as the killer of my previous adventurer. That particular revenge was particularly swift.

You think having my dwarf murder all of those humans will cause them to start crafting itms with his picture on them? (slaughtering their fathers or getting smashed to death with a mace?) Hrm, I'm going to have to start up a human and go back to that capital city to see if they are selling boots with a picture of his corpse on it :P and get that adamantine crossbow while I'm at it.

I had an Iron Man that had killed an adventurer be the target of a quest. I ran in, it announced itself, I killed it, and then turned a corner and saw the Ettin that was the original target. I killed it too.

I just got a weird announcement

it was a Goblin Spearmaster

he didn't have any kills to announce either, just "Prepare to die!" ... i'd never seen him, his only lists in my legends screen were from him killing the guy that found him.

but he announced!

I went on a rampage in a human town, and a MERCHANT announced himself. He had no kills to announce, just "Prepare to die!". It was kinda funny, though.

if you retire a successful adventurer in a town and then cause a fight with a different adventurer, will your retired adventurer announce themselves with the countless quest-kills they've done?

I had a zombie swordmaster announce himself twice.  The first time I chopped all his limbs off, and then went around to kill some of the other undead that had gathered about.  I came back to him and his "Prepare to die!" was particularly nonthreatening as he lay there on the ground with no weapons are means of movement.  I then killed him in melee combat, which I probably would've avoided if I'd seen the posts about people with broken arms carrying a villages worth of limbs in their mouth.
