Dwarf Fortress 51.02 Released

Release notes for 51.02 (January 23, 2025)

Adventure mode is back!  I put in a keyboard look cursor as a last step before launch, but I'm sure there's still quite a bit of Classic cleanup to do.  But at least the mode is alive again.  This is good.

No problem!  I'll try to get to other bits I'm missing when I can.  I mean, on top of the Build menu which is obviously missing ha ha.

Oh yeah, and the dev pages aren't updated yet, but that'll also be coming as soon as Zach and I have a chance.

Thank you all for your hard work! It's been a very exciting experience watching this project grow since I got my first computer in middle school. It distracted me from my homework then and it still keeps me distracted during college.

So now, 5-nearly 6 years after Steam announcement, at last the game has been adapted for ""modern"" display :)

I know I mentioned this in the Kitfox Discord although can easily mention here as well:

Still kind of find the timing to be relatively interesting since it happens to be on a birthday, if what I'm saying makes sense.

Hey man.
I don't know if its just me or some other people are facing the same issue. I tried downloading version 0.51.02 but it does not run on my system. I tried the linux version also on Debian but that also does not work. The latest version that works on my system is 0.50.13. Version 0.50.14 anf 0.50.15 do not work on my system. There are no error logs. When I tried running version 0.51.02 with compatibility troubleshoot it says "Cannot find data/art/curses_640x300.png" and on linux it says it has trouble linking to some sdl libraries.

Any help is appreciated.🙂

For Windows, try installing the "X64" version of the VC++ redistributable: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

Or direct download link: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

I forget what the Linux equivalent of this is.

I don't know for sure, I'm messing around with the new Adventure mode yet, but looks like the (zoomed) travel map is not working on ASCII version. Only the world map appears on screen when I press "T".

As always, many thanks for the amazing game :)
