Brain wounds?
« on: February 10, 2008, 05:34:00 am »

Now, as I understand it, nervous system wounds don't heal. So what if in adventure mode you get a broken/mangled brain? Do you never move again like in Fortress?

No (at least to my knowledge) I think you can just travel an it heals like anything else. Though it is planned to be implemented, I think along with the scar system.

I wonder if adding nervous tag to the brain will actually make the creature incapacitated after brain damage...

I tried adding [GUTS] to it..  Barring the awkward message (I'd hardly qualify a brain as intenstines), that seemed to work alright. Damage into the red almost ensures incapacitation.

It does already. A mangled brain in adventure mode will result in you crawling around unable to use weapons, only with a weak "push" attack.

I can't wait untill the 'insta-heal' travel is taken out, and realistic healing is implemented.

Well, deathbane, yes. That would be better. Because at the moment most of our adventurers are living because of what is basically an exploit.

I think in case of a serious injury you'll leave your adventurer in hospital and retire him. Then after you pass some time with other adventurers/fortresses you could find your old adventurer in much healthier state.

When magic goes in you'll be able to heal yourself.

Even better, have brain damage result in people saying funny things when you talk to them.
"The town of Elfrock is about a day's travel north of here."
"In the early spring of 1050, Palo Nightarmor was struck down by Aro Tranceticked the Cheerful Heavens of Reining in Elfrock."
"Now my memory's not what it used to be, but I think the entire Earth was destroyed."

I don't think that having our adventurers heal due to what is essentially an exploit is all that bad right now, seeing as it's far more likely that they'll die due to something that is essentially an exploit.

"You cast Heal."
"You cast Heal."
"You fail to cast Heal."
"You cast Heal."
"You have been ambushed by a giant cave spider."
"You have died."

Next we'll have spells of invisibility and spiders will get [SEEINVISIBLE].

"You cast Invisible."
"You have been ambushed by a giant cave spider."
"You have died."

Oh boy! I can't wait to play as a permanently bed-ridden adventurer because a kobold child punched me in the face causing my brain to go mangled for some reason. While losing is fun having to hold down the space key for a month IRL because a/the batman bitch slapped you crippled isn't. Instant-healing should only be removed when Toady adds a way to heal that doesn't involve waiting so long that you end up deciding to just mercy kill your character to end his suffering, because falling from a 30 z-level cliff and bursting apart is cooler then laying on a bed while a nurse chews your food for you and spits it into your mouth.

Well, guess that depends on the nurse...

...and if you're into that sort of thing.
