Yes!  Yes yes yes yes yes!

looks around

Wha?

Oh, this is all OOC enthusiasm.  It's not like I signed up with a goal of manipulating stock markets or even seeing sports teams play.  I mean, maybe I did?  But that wouldn't get much OOC reaction, duh.

This game.

This game and its styles and its puzzles and the weird indirect way to track it through the paper.  Zomg this game.

Well done, Supernerd.  This hot off the press stuff's really warming the cockles of my heart.

Still a bit surprised at the lack of roving robots rwielding ray guns. It seems that every single player has decided to go for stealthy assets of some kind, there's nary any sign of external influence at all!

Of course, one would have to wonder what kind of sneaky goals would necessitate such a subtle approach...

Another thing I've been exploring with this game and it's really interesting public updates is trying to 'solve' the town.  like, all the unknowns.  From likely population size to likely population density and possible distance between named places, likely commute times (where there's any information to go on) and, like all of it.  What the year might be if X wasn't masking part of it, how many days of the week there are.  Some patterns in if we're maybe poppin' realities or not.

I'm not hunting for mod errors; they may really catch my eye because they stand out (if there ever are any).  But this isn't about catching mistakes, it's more like those crazy logic puzzles....

"Elliette lives in a purple house that doesn't have 2 stories and isn't on Merk or Devin street.  She has two pets but no dogs or goldfish and she didn't participate in making patches or wearing vintage clothing."

And then all the rest of the clues and what they could mean and likely rule out as they're all laced together.  Of course that example's made up, but I'm having a glorious time 'solving the town'.

We're all sort of part of the town and its stories.  I wonder how many of us will be detectable in these solves, if any :D  But I'm actually even doing it 'to see if I can solve the town' as is.

And the paper is an in-world and potentially unreliable narrator.  Those writing articles and editing them (or messing with the paper, silly hacker activists or whatever) can force typos or weird things to be added or changed.  Real mistakes in-world can happen as well as 'enemy or mischief action'.  As well as potentially mod error, but that's the least cool 'aha' out of the possible many sets.

Clarbyville:  My equivalent of a Rubic's Cube.  It's glorious and fascinating.

Mystery Limousine Sighted at Town Hall

By: Grace Mercer, Senior Reporter

A sleek black limousine with a Marinel license plate was seen parked outside Clarbyville’s Town Hall yesterday afternoon, sparking speculation among residents about its purpose. The vehicle arrived shortly after 3 PM and remained parked for over an hour before leaving without fanfare.

Despite numerous inquiries from the Gazette, Mayor Betty Hargrove has declined to comment on the limousine’s presence or the identity of its occupants. Staff inside Town Hall have similarly remained tight-lipped, adding to the air of mystery surrounding the visit.

Local residents have their theories. “It’s got to be someone from the federal government or something big like that,” said Carl Dempsey, who claims to have seen two well-dressed individuals entering Town Hall during the limousine’s stay. Others, however, are less certain. “For all we know, it could be some eccentric billionaire scouting out real estate,” joked Erin Wilcox, owner of the nearby café Brewed Awakening.

Marinel, Dominara’s affluent coastal state, is home to many high-profile figures, including politicians, business magnates, and foreign dignitaries. However, the lack of information has only fueled further speculation.

For now, Clarbyville residents are left with more questions than answers. The Gazette will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

Library Fundraiser Exceeds Expectations

By: Sarah Quinn, Community Reporter

Clarbyville’s Public Library received a welcome boost to its renovation fund following the success of yesterday’s “Books and Brews” fundraiser. Held at The Velvet Oak Tavern, the event attracted book lovers and craft beer enthusiasts alike, raising over $12,000 for the library’s modernization efforts.

Library director Elaine Patterson expressed her gratitude to the community. “The support we’ve received has been incredible. Every dollar brings us closer to creating a space that better serves the people of Clarbyville.”

The library renovation project aims to update aging facilities, improve accessibility, and add new technology hubs. Construction is expected to begin later this year, pending final funding approval.

Residents Report Power Flickers in North Clarbyville

By: Marcus Lang, Local News

Residents in northern Clarbyville reported a series of brief power flickers yesterday evening, with some neighborhoods experiencing minor outages lasting up to 15 minutes.

Clarbyville Power and Light issued a statement attributing the disruptions to ongoing upgrades to the town’s electrical grid. “We’re working to ensure more reliable service in the future,” said company spokesperson Lydia Brandt, adding that further maintenance is scheduled for the coming weeks.

While no major issues were reported, some residents have expressed frustration. “It’s the middle of winter—we can’t afford to lose power, even for a short time,” said Henry Torres, a resident of the affected area.

The utility company has advised residents to keep backup batteries and flashlights handy during this period of work.

Coyotes Pull Off Thrilling Victory Against Lakeside Thunder

By: Ethan Reeds, Sports Reporter

The Clarbyville Coyotes delivered a spectacular performance last night, defeating the Lakeside Thunder in a nail-biting game that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

With a final score of 28-24, the Coyotes overcame a tough defense from the Thunder in a game that saw standout performances from quarterback Tyler Grayson, who threw two touchdown passes, and wide receiver Marcus Holt, whose game-winning catch in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.

Coach Rita Flanders praised her team for their grit and determination. “The guys came out with fire in their hearts and proved what they’re capable of,” Flanders said during the post-game interview. “This win is just the beginning.”

Fans were equally jubilant, with the stands erupting into cheers as the Coyotes secured their victory. “It’s about time we got a win like this,” said lifelong fan Peter Lawson. “You could feel the energy from the team and the crowd—it was electric!”

The Coyotes’ record now improves to 5-6, and they’ll face the Riverside Rams on the road next week as they fight to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Stay tuned for updates on these and other local stories in tomorrow’s Gazette.

OOCly explodes; it sounds remarkably similar to the Jan 4th/5th late-night/early morning explosion.

Zomg.  And these Clarbyville Coyotes are gonna actually play ice hockey next game, and women's figure skating the following game, right?  Right? I mean... that would start to make sense....

Glees at and about the game.  But some explosions and reactions are well earned and clearly build into play!!!!!  8)

The almost daily and voluminous news is too much for me to digest, admittedly my threshold for that is on the extreme low end.

Strictly speaking, you don't technically need the newspaper to play this game. Some people just don't read newspapers.

I hope you're enjoying what you choose to follow.

Maybe you even picked a faction that doesn't need to 'keep up' with the current news.

Maybe you can ask our Mod to tell you in the private messages the key stuff your signup sheet choice would notice and care about, so you can follow that and make the key choices without feeling as overwhelmed?

If they have time for it that could help. I did find it helpful when there was a "top story" and categories like "opinion" and sports.

Tourism: Clarbyville Sees Unprecedented Visitor Boom

By: Grace Mercer, Senior Reporter

Clarbyville is no longer just a quiet town tucked away in Dominara—it’s become a hotspot for curious tourists and media alike. In the wake of the mysterious flying ship’s arrival earlier this week, Clarbyville has seen an influx of visitors eager to catch a glimpse of the town that made headlines across the country.

Local businesses have reported record-breaking sales. Erin Wilcox, owner of Brewed Awakening, said her café has been busier than ever. “People are coming in just to say they’ve been to Clarbyville,” she said. “We’ve even had folks asking to buy our coffee mugs as souvenirs!”

Meanwhile, the Clarbyville Chamber of Commerce is capitalizing on the sudden fame, planning a series of events to welcome tourists. A “Sky Visitors Festival” is tentatively scheduled for next month, featuring live music, local food vendors, and talks from experts speculating on the mysterious ship and its visitors.

Mayor Betty Hargrove expressed cautious optimism about the surge in tourism. “While we’re thrilled to see Clarbyville thriving economically, we must balance this newfound attention with the needs of our residents,” she said.

Accommodations in the area are reportedly filling quickly, with several visitors opting to stay in neighboring towns due to limited availability. Whether this surge in interest will have long-term benefits for Clarbyville remains to be seen, but for now, the town is enjoying its moment in the spotlight.

Economy: Silver Prices Begin to Stabilize

By: Marcus Lang, Business Correspondent

After a period of unprecedented volatility, silver prices across Dominara have shown signs of stabilizing. The initial spike was largely attributed to speculation surrounding the mysterious silver coins introduced by the visitors to Clarbyville.

Analysts believe the slowdown is due to a clearer understanding of the limited supply of these coins. “We’re seeing the market settle as the novelty wears off,” said financial expert Harold Crane. “But silver remains a popular asset, particularly in uncertain times.”

Locally, collectors are still eager to acquire the coins, but the frenzy has lessened. Clarbyville’s merchants have reported fewer inquiries about trading their items for the visitors’ currency. Federal authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging citizens to remain cautious about speculative investments.

Politics: Mayor Hargrove Faces Questions About Limousine Incident

By: Sarah Quinn, Political Reporter

Mayor Betty Hargrove continues to dodge questions regarding the mysterious black limousine with Marinel license plates that was spotted at Town Hall earlier this week. During yesterday’s town council meeting, residents voiced concerns about transparency and potential outside influences.

“We deserve to know who’s visiting our town and why,” said Lynn Sawyer, a local activist.

The mayor responded by reiterating her stance: “At this time, I am not at liberty to share details about that visit. I assure you, however, that the town’s interests remain my top priority.”

Council members appeared split on the issue, with some urging patience while others called for greater openness. For now, the limousine incident remains a topic of heated debate among residents.

Community: New Park Upgrades Planned for Spring

By: Emily Carter, Community Reporter

Clarbyville’s Evergreen Park is set to receive major upgrades this spring, thanks to a successful grant application submitted by the town’s Parks and Recreation Department. Planned improvements include new playground equipment, additional seating areas, and upgraded lighting for safety during evening hours.

“We’re excited to bring these enhancements to our community,” said Parks Director Sandra Bell. “The park is a central part of life in Clarbyville, and these changes will make it even more enjoyable for families and visitors alike.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in early March and is expected to conclude by mid-summer. Residents can look forward to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the revamped park.

Arts & Culture: Local Artist Debuts “Cosmic Collection”

By: Olivia Reed, Arts Contributor

Inspired by the recent otherworldly events, local artist Mason Graye has unveiled his latest series, the “Cosmic Collection.” The series features abstract paintings that blend vivid colors and metallic textures, evoking a sense of wonder and mystery.

“Clarbyville has always been my muse,” Graye said at the opening of his exhibit at The Velvet Oak Gallery. “But after everything that’s happened, I felt compelled to capture the surreal energy of these past few days.”

The exhibit runs through February and has already attracted significant attention, with several pieces sold during the opening night. Graye’s work has long been a staple of Clarbyville’s art scene, and this latest collection cements his reputation as one of the town’s most innovative creators.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s edition of the Clarbyville Gazette for the latest updates and stories shaping our town.

NOOOOOOOO. NOT THE SILVER PRICES.

I'm surprised they increased at all.  I suspected market manipulation there.

People want those alien coins... maybe folks wanna fake more of them... otherwise people don't want just silver, they want those unique and limited availability coins.

I was expecting silver value to plummet, not grow, since there's now more silver available and no new use for silver that I saw mentioned in the paper :P
