I still don't have a good sense of what is okay to discuss, but, well yeah. Following the silver coin thing, myself...

Neat!

I'm going to OOCly claim in-character ignorance of what we discuss in this public thread, which might be true or false.

But what I discuss in thread, it's OOC observation and reactions.  Which may be the same as my character(s)' observations and thoughts and reactions or not (not if I'm honest about ignorance, haha, since I'm oocly not ignorant like I claimed to be IC).

If you have info in your private messages.

Like if you were told "So you know the price of silver will rise again really soon."  You should not tell us, because that is.... something we can't know OOCly until it happens, and is info gifted to you privately and likely in character for whatever reason.

Likewise, if your faction's gonna rob the bank this action, probably don't let us know because we don't know until we get told the bank gets robbed... if we are told that... and if we know ahead of time we might use that info in some way that we wouldn't do otherwise.

But discussing what the paper says, without adding stuff you privately know, is probably okay, especially if it's really hard to connect it to what your faction wants/is trying to do - at least in ways that might help someone .... there's at least 9 of us playing as near as I can tell... help one of the 8+ other people not-you potentially do something about your plans... since that's free info that we might not otherwise have.  And might affect your odds of success because of the secret choices and abilities the rest of us have.

But interested chatter about stuff said in the thread is probably safe. And fun!  Very much fun, which drives my typing mine!

(Thanks for trying to explain things to me!)

Lot of talk of "factions" there, Imp. (I didn't notice the paper say it, but maybe I missed it.)

confused, flustered, maybe even scared

Uhh...  Uhhhhh...

Well, I coulda sworn someone said it somewhere?

panicked-seeming shuffling

Ahh!  Maybe... yeah.  Whew.  The OP?

Welcome to the town of Clarbyville! Its a little city in the middle of nowhere, a place where interesting things don't happen very often. UNTIL NOW!

You are... Something. You are some kind of faction perhaps? Maybe you are planning world domination with an army of robots, maybe you want to abduct people and turn them into mutants, maybe you are the leader of some kind of evil cult. Or maybe you just want to steal half the city's socks or something. There are only examples. It can also be a much better idea.

The important thing is that you have recently gained access to a dimensional portal thingy, which leads straight to Clarbyville!

I'm watching you..

Uhh, great?

I might be more confusing than the paper though.  OOCly, that is.  And there's a pretty high chance, well...
I did find it helpful when there was a "top story" and categories like "opinion" and sports.

I may not have labels like that.  And all my stories might be more tangled and more frequent than editions of the Clarbyville Gazette.

Hope you enjoy the show either way!

Community: Questions Arise After Tragedy at Local Gathering

By: Sarah Quinn, Community Reporter

Clarbyville is mourning the untimely death of Mason Tate, 24, whose life was tragically cut short during a party at an abandoned barn on the outskirts of town late Saturday night.

Mason, a graduate of Clarbyville High School and an aspiring artist, was found unresponsive in the early hours of Sunday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Authorities have not yet released an official cause of death, pending toxicology results.

The party, reportedly attended by dozens of local young adults, had spiraled out of control, with witnesses describing excessive alcohol consumption and the presence of unidentified substances. “It was supposed to be a small gathering, but word got out,” said one attendee, who wished to remain anonymous.

Mason’s family described him as a kind-hearted and creative soul who had a passion for painting and music. “He brought color to our lives,” his mother, Susan Tate, said. “We’re devastated by this loss.”

This incident has sparked renewed concern about substance use and safety among Clarbyville’s youth. Police Chief Raymond Miller has vowed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the party and urged residents to talk openly with their children about the dangers of such environments.

A memorial service for Mason Tate will be held this Friday at Ridgeview Memorial Chapel. His family has requested donations to local art programs in lieu of flowers.

Economy: Local Businesses Scramble to Meet Tourist Demand

By: Marcus Lang, Business Correspondent

Clarbyville businesses are racing to accommodate the surge of tourists drawn by the town’s recent notoriety. Hotels are fully booked, and restaurants have reported long wait times, prompting several owners to hire additional staff and expand hours of operation.

While many are profiting from the influx, others are struggling to keep up. Millie Cooper, owner of Millie’s Diner, says she’s overwhelmed. “I’ve had more customers this week than I usually get in a month. It’s great, but we’re running out of everything.”

To help manage the demand, the Clarbyville Chamber of Commerce is considering temporary food trucks and pop-up shops in high-traffic areas. Mayor Betty Hargrove praised the entrepreneurial spirit of local businesses, adding, “This is a unique opportunity for our town to shine.”

Politics: Council Discusses New Zoning Laws Amid Tourism Boom

By: Grace Mercer, Senior Reporter

At last night’s town council meeting, members debated proposed changes to Clarbyville’s zoning laws to accommodate the growing number of visitors. The measures would focus on creating designated areas for parking, additional lodging, and event spaces.

Councilmember Anna Morales supported the changes, calling them “a necessary step for progress.” However, Todd Fisher voiced concerns about maintaining the town’s character. “We need to ensure that Clarbyville doesn’t lose what makes it special,” he argued.

A public hearing on the proposed zoning changes is scheduled for later this month, giving residents a chance to voice their opinions.

Lifestyle: Clarbyville Embraces Vintage Fashion Craze

By: Emily Carter, Lifestyle Reporter

Clarbyville’s thrift stores are buzzing with activity as vintage fashion becomes the latest trend among residents and visitors. From 90s band tees to mid-century dresses, locals are scouring racks for unique finds.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Janet Pringle, owner of Timeless Treasures Thrift Shop. “People are coming in from out of town just to see what we have.”

Experts attribute the craze to recent media attention on sustainable shopping and the appeal of nostalgia. With Clarbyville in the spotlight, even its vintage fashion scene is enjoying a moment of fame.

Dang, abandoned buildings on the outskirts of Clarbyville seem to be getting more dangerous. Let's see if we can't do something about that, eh? [/ominous]

Top Story: Strange Vine Growth Takes Over Residential Area

By: Grace Mercer, Senior Reporter

A bizarre and unsettling phenomenon has unfolded in Clarbyville, as a massive patch of highly animated vines has overtaken several residential buildings near Seventh Avenue and Main Street. Authorities have confirmed several casualties, with emergency responders still working to contain the situation.

The vines, which appear to be of an unknown species, have grown rapidly in recent days, with tendrils creeping up buildings, through windows, and even into the ground beneath the affected properties. The vines seem to pulse and move as if alive, and some residents have reported hearing faint whispers emanating from within the dense foliage.

Local authorities are advising residents to stay away from the area, and a specialized team from the Dominara Department of Environmental Control has been dispatched to assess the threat. Experts are currently struggling to identify the vines' origin or behaviour, though initial reports suggest they may be of an invasive and unusually intelligent variety.

“The vines appear to be incredibly responsive to movement, and they’ve begun constricting around anything that comes too close, including cars and structures,” said Police Chief Raymond Miller. “We’ve also encountered an alarming number of large beetles—about the size of a car—that seem to be inhabiting the area.”

The beetles, which have not been seen in any other part of Clarbyville, have been described by witnesses as giant, armoured insects with glowing orange eyes. They are believed to be associated with the vines in some way, though local experts are unsure of the connection.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” said Dr. Elizabeth Forrester, an entomologist who has been called to the scene. “These beetles are not native to this area, and their behaviour is completely out of the ordinary. They’re aggressive and seem to be guarding the vines.”

Several residents who attempted to leave their homes have been injured, with one confirmed fatality. Amanda Price, a local woman, was found crushed under the weight of a vine that had wrapped itself around her house. Her death has sent shockwaves through the community.

Mayor Betty Hargrove has promised to assist the victims’ families and ensure the safety of all residents. “We are working with federal agencies to bring this situation under control, and we urge everyone to avoid the affected area until further notice,” she said during a press conference this morning.

Clarbyville is no stranger to strange events, but this latest occurrence has left the town stunned and fearful. The full extent of the vines’ spread and the true nature of the beetles is still unclear, but authorities are bracing for more potential developments as the situation unfolds.

Economy: Local Impact of Vine Incident

By: Marcus Lang, Business Correspondent

The unprecedented vine incident in Clarbyville is already having a noticeable impact on local businesses, particularly in the Seventh Avenue area. Several small shops and restaurants have been forced to close temporarily, and property damage to residential buildings is still being assessed.

“We’re not sure how much longer we’ll be able to keep our doors open if this keeps up,” said Daniel Reyes, the owner of Reyes' Auto Repair, located just on the outskirts of the affected zone. “I’ve had to turn away customers, and my workers can’t even get to the shop with all the roadblocks.”

While most businesses outside the affected zone remain open, many are concerned about the long-term impact on tourism. Visitors have been advised to steer clear of the area, and many are cancelling reservations, fearing further danger.

The Clarbyville Chamber of Commerce has already begun offering assistance to impacted businesses, though the full scope of the economic loss will take time to assess.

Politics: Mayor Hargrove Calls for State of Emergency

By: Sarah Quinn, Political Reporter

In light of the crisis unfolding near Seventh Avenue, Mayor Betty Hargrove has officially called for a State of Emergency in Clarbyville, empowering local authorities to take immediate action in addressing the threat posed by the animated vines and their accompanying beetles.

“We need all the resources we can get to deal with this situation,” Mayor Hargrove said in a press statement. “We are coordinating with the state, federal, and local agencies to resolve this as swiftly and safely as possible. The safety of our residents is our top priority.”

The state government has already pledged to assist, with emergency funds and additional personnel being dispatched. However, questions remain about how the crisis will be managed long-term, especially with the strange and unpredictable nature of the vines and beetles.

Community: Residents Band Together to Support Victims

By: Emily Carter, Community Reporter

As the town reels from the loss of Amanda Price and other victims of the vine incident, residents have come together to offer support.

Clarbyville’s Community Center has set up a relief fund to assist those displaced by the vines, as well as the families of the victims. “We’re a tight-knit community, and we’re going to help each other through this,” said Barbara Jenkins, a local volunteer.

A candlelight vigil for Amanda Price and the other victims is planned for tonight at Evergreen Park, where friends, family, and neighbors will gather to honor the lives lost and provide support for those still in danger.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s edition of the Clarbyville Gazette for continued updates on the vine incident and other developments around town.

I have decided on what to do in the event that a player attempts to make an off-turn action. I want to discourage this behaviour, so while attempting to do so is legal (At least for now); it is not only done at a disadvantage, but also compromises what you were trying to do with your latest on-turn pm. When you pm your action, you will be in the middle of doing that action even before you receive your update pm.

This does not apply if you get a mini-update. A mini update typically means that something happened that you would have the opportunity to immediately react to.
