Hey guys, just want to sort of check in on everyone. Just want to make sure everyone is still having fun with this game. Feel free to send me a PM with your thoughts if you like.

I'll also mention that I noticed some players go into much more detail in their actions than others. There is no official upper or lower limit on how large your actions should be, but as a general rule a more detailed player action tends to result in a larger update pm as well.

Also, here's the update:

Supernatural Companions: Friend Units Sighted in Clarbyville

By: Rachel Vaughn, Lifestyle Reporter

Since the recent declassification, several instances of what are now officially known as Friend Units have been reported throughout Clarbyville. These small, floating entities—long shrouded in mystery and once considered ominous portents—are appearing in a surprising variety of forms. Some resemble familiar animal figures, while others manifest as abstract, almost painterly shapes that seem to defy traditional description. Residents who have encountered these entities describe them as benign, even whimsical, companions that seem to respond to the summoning command, “Report to friend unit.” Although their presence has stirred both curiosity and cautious optimism, local experts remind us that while Friend Units are generally no more dangerous than a common tool, their unpredictable nature calls for mindful interaction. As Clarbyville embraces this new chapter of supernatural integration, community members are urged to observe these phenomena from a safe distance and report any unusual behavior to local authorities.

Community: Neighborhood Mural Festival Inspires Unity

By: Emily Carter, Community Reporter

Amid ongoing uncertainties, Clarbyville’s residents are turning to art to uplift their spirits. This weekend marked the kickoff of the Neighborhood Mural Festival, a vibrant event where local artists transformed blank walls into canvases of hope and resilience. Murals depicting themes of cosmic wonder, community solidarity, and the town’s rich history have emerged in alleys and on public buildings throughout downtown. “Art has this incredible power to unite us,” said muralist Lena Ortiz as she added the final touches to her depiction of a phoenix rising above a star-studded sky. The festival has not only brightened the urban landscape but also provided a platform for dialogue about the supernatural events affecting Clarbyville. With live music, interactive workshops, and guided tours of the mural sites, the event has become a beacon of communal healing and creative expression during these turbulent times.

Arts: Local Poet’s New Collection Captures Uncertain Times

By: Melissa Raines, Arts Reporter

In the midst of a world turned upside down, Clarbyville’s literary scene is thriving with fresh voices that speak to the spirit of our era. Local poet Jun Li has just released a new collection entitled Echoes of the Unknown, which delves into themes of mystery, change, and the interplay between light and shadow. Li’s evocative verses weave together imagery of spectral friend units, surreal landscapes, and the collective human longing for meaning in uncertain times. “My poetry reflects the feeling of standing at the edge of a vast, uncharted universe,” Li remarked during a recent reading at the Community Arts Center. Critics have hailed the collection as both haunting and hopeful, resonating with those who find beauty in life’s ambiguities. As Clarbyville navigates these extraordinary challenges, Li’s work offers solace and a reminder that art can transform fear into a shared journey of discovery.

Science & Nature: Unexpected Frost Transforms Local Parks

By: Marcus Lang, Science Correspondent

While supernatural phenomena and community art have captured much of the town’s attention lately, Clarbyville’s natural world is quietly putting on its own spectacular show. Early this morning, residents woke to discover that a sudden and unseasonable frost had blanketed the city’s parks, transforming familiar landscapes into glittering, crystalline vistas. Trees, benches, and even playground equipment are now adorned with a delicate layer of ice, refracting the weak winter sunlight into a myriad of colors. “It’s like walking through a dream,” noted local naturalist Dr. Fiona Greene, who is currently studying the anomaly. Although the frost is expected to be short-lived, its unexpected arrival has sparked both scientific interest and a sense of wonder among residents, providing a brief, serene counterpoint to the chaos unfolding elsewhere in Clarbyville.

Stay with The Clarbyville Gazette for ongoing updates and stories that capture the spirit of our resilient community during these extraordinary times.

I am confirming here I am absolutely digging this game.  I have been taking longer to answer any update opportunities/turns I get because of distraction, I'm like playing maf games which eats my brain but...

I also am about to have a major move.  And am packing and dealing with that, also eating my brainpower.

Your game's a delight and a fascination to me.  I keep checking to watch how it's unfolding, and I wonder about possible mentions of how Clarbe's doing!

Life's tough in Clarbyville these days - but I am ready to cheer on sports teams and watch with huge interest to see what comes next.

Heh heh he.... uhh.  That is.  I hope everyone's doing very well and enjoying everything, or at least surviving and thriving in their own ways!

I am considering lowering the news article frequency, as at least one player has mentioned they are having some trouble keeping up with the reading. Is anyone else having this problem?

A reduction in newspaper frequency will not reduce how often player turns occur.

Edit: I just thought of a better idea. Would it work if I just tried to summarize the articles in a TLDR spoiler at the end of these posts?

I have been enjoying the game greatly.
I’ve been sitting in my little corner, doing my little side-quests, and ignoring everything supernatural happening.

I enjoy the current update sizes. It’s nice to hear about local businesses and get-togethers while I wait for my turn in the action order to roll back around.
If it’s not too much of a burden on your running, I guess I wouldn’t mind a summary, but I don’t feel a particular need for it on my end.

Can confirm I read every update and all of every update.

Adding summaries might help anyone that finds reading more tiring, though.

It might just be a problem of me being distracted and not able to keep up my enthusiasm for a game for months constantly. Most games will go on random hiatus pretty frequently, so I think I just don't have the stamina for reading something every day and making an action a bit more often than once a week. I think I might drop out, since that's not a problem for anyone else?

Any player has the right to quit a game for any arbitrary reason. Your exit now would be rather anti-climactic, but would certainly fall short of being a problem.

I have an idea.

What if those players who wish, can get a private summary from you, as pertains to them as part of their update?

Like, making this up of course.  "Your drugged coffee blend was mentioned in the newspaper, it's being served at the popular café Starry Sips and two other restaurants."  Sorry if that outs anyone... or me.  But hey, so.  Like the stuff that 'might be meaningful' to that player's goals and stuff.

I imagine that might be more or less for some players.

Me... I wanna get my news from the paper, and my updates. If I miss something... I want consequences.  But that's me, and I can have that for myself without that (hopefully) greatly affecting other players, who may want a far more minimal experience.

Or even a mostly play-by-post game, their game is through DMs.

I'm cool with that if people want it.  I think I could play around it - if I want my faction to interact directly with yours (I may not know it's yours) I can always attempt a direct route instead of writing to the paper about what stories they shou....

Right, forget I said that?  I mean.  The game's.... awesome.

If anyone leaves us.  I wonder what happens to their faction and to anyone who was, like, interacting with that faction on some level.  Don't tell me though.  I wanna read about it in the paper :D  Or however else I... find out.

Seriously though, requesting support for players who would like support?  A personalized news update for them?  If that's not too much to give them, and if they're interested.  I'm all for it (even if it reduces my chance to be a scamp towards them, oh well.  But their enjoyment matters much more!)

Top Story: Animated Vines Send Out Thin Roots, Quarantine Remains Intact

By: Grace Mercer, Senior Reporter

In a new twist to the ongoing vine crisis, officials report that the animated vines have begun to extend a network of thin roots in every direction from the portal site. Although these roots are spreading rapidly, they have not breached the established quarantine zone, and no additional damage to surrounding structures has been observed.

Early assessments suggest that while the herbicide treatments have effectively slowed the main mass of the vines, the creatures seem to have adapted by dispersing slender, far-reaching roots that are currently under close observation by FDC specialists and local botanists. “The quarantine remains secure,” stated Dr. Celia Ramirez, “but these fine roots may be testing our containment protocols. We must remain vigilant.”

Authorities are urging residents near the zone to keep their distance and report any unusual vine activity as research continues into the vines' new behavior.

Arts: ‘Green Horizons’ Exhibit Explores Nature’s Resilience

By: Olivia Reed, Arts Reporter

Local artists have joined forces for a new exhibition titled “Green Horizons”, which explores themes of nature, renewal, and the unexpected beauty amid chaos. The exhibit, on display at the Clarbyville Community Arts Center, features works inspired by the dynamic interplay of life and destruction seen in the animated vine crisis.

Many pieces reflect the intricate network of thin roots recently observed, capturing both their delicate structure and underlying power. “Art has a unique way of transforming anxiety into awe,” remarked lead curator Lena Ortiz. The exhibit offers a moment of contemplation and resilience for a community grappling with unprecedented challenges.

Health: Rising Environmental Allergens Stir Concern

By: Marcus Lang, Community Correspondent

Local health clinics have reported an uptick in allergy-related complaints, which some experts believe could be linked to the new growth of vine roots dispersing near residential areas. Residents in the outskirts of the quarantine zone are experiencing symptoms such as sneezing, watery eyes, and mild respiratory irritation.

Dr. Helena Marks from Clarbyville Community Health Center noted, “The increased root activity may be releasing allergens that we haven’t seen at such levels before.” Authorities advise residents to take precautions by keeping windows closed during peak periods and using over-the-counter antihistamines if necessary.

Supply Chain Crisis: Missing Trucks Disrupt Essential Deliveries

By: Grace Mercer, Senior Reporter

In a troubling turn of events, several incoming trucks expected to bolster Clarbyville’s supply chain have gone unaccounted for, leaving distribution centers scrambling to meet the community’s needs. Logistics officials report that shipments of essential goods—ranging from foodstuffs to medical supplies—are delayed, sparking growing concerns among local residents and business owners. Investigations are underway to determine whether the trucks have been diverted through unmonitored routes or lost in transit entirely. “We’re experiencing significant gaps in our supply lines,” stated a senior official from the Department of Commerce. In the meantime, residents are advised to conserve resources and stay updated on further developments as authorities work to restore stability.

Supernatural Sighting: Friend Units Glimmer Near Abandoned Depot

By: Daniel Holloway, Public Safety Reporter

Adding a surreal twist to the ongoing events in Clarbyville, multiple witnesses have reported sightings of mysterious, small floating entities—known as Friend Units—near an abandoned truck depot on the outskirts of town. These enigmatic beings, now officially declassified by the FDC, were observed drifting silently in the twilight, their faint luminescence captivating onlookers. “They seem almost playful, as if offering a quiet kind of companionship amid the chaos,” one local observer remarked. While Friend Units are generally considered benign, their appearance continues to fuel both wonder and speculation, as residents struggle to reconcile these supernatural encounters with everyday life.

Education: New Course Explores Supernatural Phenomena at Community College

By: Sarah Quinn, Education Reporter

In response to the extraordinary events unfolding in Clarbyville, Clarbyville Community College has announced a groundbreaking new interdisciplinary course that will examine supernatural phenomena, including the recent manifestations of Friend Units, animated vines, and mysterious portals. Titled “Mysteries Beyond: Science, Myth, and the Supernatural,” the course aims to bring together experts in biology, metaphysics, and cultural studies to provide students with a framework for understanding these anomalies. “Our goal is to empower our students with knowledge and critical thinking skills to navigate these unprecedented times,” said Dr. Elaine Chen, the course coordinator. The class has already attracted significant interest from both students and local community members eager to learn more about the phenomena that have reshaped their reality.

Arts & Culture: Mural Contest Celebrates Resilience Amid Uncertainty

By: Olivia Reed, Arts Reporter

In a bid to restore hope and beautify a town marred by supply chain woes and supernatural mysteries, local artists have launched a citywide mural contest under the theme “Resilience in the Face of Mystery.” The contest, sponsored by the Clarbyville Arts Council, invites artists to transform public walls into vibrant canvases that reflect the community’s strength and adaptability. Early entries depict scenes blending urban life with celestial and supernatural imagery—from abstract renditions of Friend Units to stylized portrayals of animated vines. “This is our chance to reclaim our streets and express our shared determination to thrive despite the odds,” explained muralist and contest organizer Lena Ortiz. Winners will have their work permanently displayed on key thoroughfares, inspiring both residents and visitors with images of unity and renewal.

In our classrooms and on our walls, we see reflections of our resilience and our enduring quest for understanding. As we face the unpredictable challenges of our time, let us remember that in unity there is strength. We must support our local institutions, safeguard our community, and continue to question, learn, and create.
