I've added some rules to the first post, if anyone wants a sneak peak at those. I'm still on-target to send roles sometime tomorrow, probably near end-of-day MST.

99 of these abilities

Okay.  Now I'm really happy.

My apologies for the delay, there will still be a bit of time until this starts. I'm waiting on one more person to confirm. If I can't get in touch with them by tomorrow then I'll start looking for a replacement.

Hey everyone, welcome to the first annual Bay 12 Games Board Game Games! Thanks for coming, and I see you've all brought your own board game to the meet, as requested. Hopefully we'll have time to play all of them. For now, let's begin with my own favourite, Eclipse.

Two hours of setup and rules explanations later...

So, does that make sense to everyone? I guess we'll get started!

Four hours of gameplay later...

Alright, so it's round two, I think I'm ready to take the first combat encounter of the game. Let's see... hey, somebody messed with the encounter tiles! There's no way I can defeat a vessel with THREE ion cannons!! This game is ruined!!!!

Magma Mater flips the table. The pieces for his favourite game scatter throughout the meeting gallery, skittering under tables, chairs, floorboards. If it wasn't unplayable before, it is now.

Spoiler: Magma Mater's Flip (click to show/hide)

I beg of you all, please find the cheaters responsible for this mess (as in, the ones who caused me to make the mess, my reaction was reasonable and justified). In the meantime, I'll let you all vote on which game we play next.

---

Vote Count - Day One Start

Not Voting (11) - Imp, FallacyOfUrist, CrystalizedMire, TricMagic, EuchreJack, VermilionSkies, Elephant Parade, Hyper, NJW2000, notquitethere, juicebox

With 11 votes in play, 6 are required to lynch or to no-lynch.

Day ends in 72 hours, at 20:00:00 UTC on January 18.

An auction has started! The following items are on the docket:

  • Darkroom (Passive)
Nobody can see you in here. It's a good place to lie low.
You are immune to investigative abilities. This ability becomes locked at the start of the next day.
  • Butchery (Passive)
A little creepy. Many of the tools here are used to dissect animals. Hopefully they don't turn against you.
You are immune to protective abilities. This ability becomes locked at the start of the next day.
  • Smithy (Passive)
The armour here will make you positively unhoistable.
You are immune to lynches. This ability becomes locked at the start of the next day.
  • Dormitory (Passive)
A nice place to doze off for a while, if you don't mind the bedbugs.
This does nothing. This ability becomes locked at the start of the next day.
  • Hospital (Passive)
This is a great place to stub your toe.
You are immune to kills. This ability becomes locked at the start of the next day.
  • Sheriff's Office (Active, Free)
The sheriff needs a new deputy. Will you answer the call?
Target any player. You will learn their Faction. This ability becomes locked at the start of the next day.

To claim one, vote for it as normal (in bold, with red). For example, to claim Darkroom, do Darkroom. The items must be claimed in the order listed above (from top to bottom). If somebody claims one of the items, the next one immediately becomes available to claim (don't wait for me to announce anything!)

If you claim an item, you will lose your vote for the day. This will reduce the number of votes required for a lynch. In other words, if all items are claimed, there will only be five votes left in play so it will only take three votes to hammer somebody. It's possible that taking an item will immediately cause a lynch to occur.

My activity may be spotty this game. Please bear with me.

notquitethere: How do you decide which people to ask RVS questions?
juicebox: Have we played together? I don't think we have, but I could be forgetting.
FallacyofUrist: In the OP, your 'o' is mistakenly capitalized. How does this make you feel?

Magma Mater: Are bought abilities gained as General Abilities or Personal Abilities?

Abilities gained from the auction are Personal Abilities.

EP, I usually try to engage with players who have had less attention as a priority, but eventually interact with everyone. This game might warrant a slightly different approach.

Everyone,  do you think it's worth us trying to clear through the auction to get the Sheriff's Office? What are the arguments for/against?

Important: Anyone else with the "Family" Genre, we need to publicly claim which ability we plan to use.

Claim: I have the Family Genre.
Those with this genre know what the abilities are, so we don't have to describe them. But we DO need to claim our use of them.

The first two items are crap and I would suspect anyone trying to grab them. I personally want Smithy, and Hospital is good.
...
So, it ain't worth it, is what I am saying.

If some players "take one for the team" by grabbing the useless abilities, that opens up the useful ones for other players. I have another theory about this though, one which I will share at end of day.

Imp. You know why!  :D

Hyper, what was the hardest part about playing as mafia in the last game?
