Hire a Club Pro for the start of the course... we want to get the mood boost in early, before getting stuck in the trees pisses them off.

The board responds quickly to the near miss with Bill. It rushes the appointment of a local budding pro player, NJW2000, to act as an official greeter with orders to hang around near hole 1 and to try and control the anger induced by the tree lined fairway. Hopefully this is a good investment.

Could there be one starting at the cherry tree in the eastmost corner and past the cherry trees to the northwest without chopping down trees?

Lets find out, shall we?

Spoiler: Hole 5 (click to show/hide)

Nothing to difficult on the approach, just some fairway towards some trees. However, the jury is out on if players will succesfully get up and over the trees. Our manager heads over there to observe. Worryingly, one of the first players is going to be I.M. Picky. It would be just our luck if it turns out our experiment prevents us expanding...

While our intrepid manager treks out to observe, our new greeter is proving to be a hit with the lady golfers.

Oh, and opening hole 5 unlocks our next building.

Speaking of hole 5, the first players are about to give it a whirl.

Damn right you do.

We move in for a closer look as Alain lines up his effort at getting by the trees... not a bad effort. He misses the green to the left by a few feet, but got over them. Next up is J.W...

... who really likes the trees that might just ruin his day. J.W. doesnt attempt to go over the trees. Or around them. Like a galaxy brained genius, he runs the ball low underneath them! Early days, but this hole might be an amazing success as it looks really hard, but might be easy with some creative play from our members. Our manager decides to hang around the hole while I.M. Picky takes his turn.

While Alain and J.W. struggle to finish hole 5 (yay trees)...

...MonkeyHead is distracted from focussing on I.M. Picky by a phonecall. Our course has attracted the attention of the SimGolf Association...

... who wish to hold a big money tournament at our course! This now presents us with a dilemma we need to consider before I.M. finishes his round.

The dilemma is this. If we enter that tournament, and place well (like, the top 3 of 10), we will have enough money to expand (if approved for it), build the 3 buildings we have unlocked, add a snack bar and soda vendor after hole 5 as well as some benches (as golfers are now getting tired, thirsty, and hungry), and maybe even a 6th hole. If we enter it and come in lowly ranked, it will cost us money as we still need to pay course upkeep during the tournament but will not be getting green fees from members. A third option might be to wait until Picky has finished his round, purchase the plot to the south, and then try the tournament - but then there will be intense pressure on us to win in order to avoid going into the red.

What would the board reccomend?

I think we should wait on the tournament for a bit sense we might not get any money from the deal.

The board in its infinite wisdom does not rush into hosting the proposed tournament.

I think we should wait on the tournament for a bit sense we might not get any money from the deal.

It is simply too big a risk at this juncture - I suspect they have seen how awful our one practice round went.

Focus instead switches to Mr. Picky, who is about to have his turn at getting past our new tree obstacle on hole 5. Before he can take his shot, though, another phone call. This one comes from the somewhat arrogant Joe Pro, who has challenged us to a match:

This offer can wait for now, as I.M. finishing his round is more important. He lines up his shot...

... and rolls the ball under the trees, into the dirt to the left of the green. Not bad, not great, but a clear shot to the green next. Mahatma tries a different approach and tries to drive the ball through a tree, with predictable effects.

While that is going on, hole 4 earns a classificaton:

Probable all those rocks.

Thats no solace to Mahatma, who is having an awful time in the trees. No sympathy after he showed us no mercy in our game.

Though I am getting a little worried about I.M. Picky, who seems to be put off his game by Mahatma and his moaning.

However, our manager shows surprising initiative and offers some encouragement to prevent things getting out of hand.

Thankfully, Picky doesnt spend too long in the trees, holes out with a double bogey, and is happy enough to offer us expansion land.

When it comes to buying more land I say we get some to the south of our current lot.

Spoiler: A closer look (click to show/hide)

This plot offers us the opportunity to introduce some water hazards if we so desire. Does the board have any express wishes for more holes at this point? We might need to start worrying about snackbars, refreshments, and soda vendors.

However, that ate into our cash reserves. How do we go about earning more? Waiting and earning from greens fees? Safe, but might take a while to get enough for any meaningful purchases. Playing the challenge match? Greens fees will roll in while we play, but we might lose a hole or two, or more... Or the tournament? Big bucks, allowing plenty of purchases, but I might not win.

That little uhhh marshy sand(?) with single tile of green behind the lake looks like prime material for a 'creative' typ hole :P

I approve of trying a challenge match, if only to practice and have a shot (hur hur) at getting extra money.

I like the sound of challenging that guy then buy the snack bar.
