Bountiful Fruit Harvests, Yam Engineering
« on: October 20, 2024, 03:20:18 am »

On the surface of the dwarven outpost of Rimbury, there are a great number of fruit trees. The nineteen dwarves that live there, being an industrious lot, have harvested an great quantity of fruit from them (~400 units). So much, in fact, that the nineteen dwarves that live there have no idea what to do with them all, and have very recently switched to producing lavish meals to try and put a dent in the supply. One enterprising dwarf, however, came up with a speedier solution: yam roasts!

In what I can only imagine was the culinary equivalent of a martial trance, they made a stack of (at least) 385 long yam roasts (https://dffd.bay12games.com/download.php?id=17227&f=roastpacked.png).

The quantity of yam in those yam roasts is positively homeopathic. This Planepacked-esque stack doesn't fit in a barrel, is almost as heavy as two platinum bars, and consumed just about every item of fruit in the fortress!

In hindsight, I probably should have paused the plant collection zones. Suggestions about how to enshrine the stack in the dining hall, like a buffet, would be very much welcome.

(and no, before you ask, I don't have a legendary chef in the fortress now)

This Dwarf either made some sort of roasted yam over a puree of every fruit and leaf imaginable, or a roasted yam with a sauce made of every fruit and leaf imaginable. Love it.

I'm guessing your chef picked up 4 food barrels (rather than 4 individual food stacks) and thus incorporated all of their contents into the resulting meal. The same thing happens if you convince your cook to use a locally-produced Milk barrel (which contains up to 100 individual stacks of milk) in a meal.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Finally someone found a way to reproduce it.

Does it work with bins? There were some planepacked items recently.

I'm not sure that I have a save that will capture the behaviour reliably, so I may not have a reproduction of the bug.
