Turn 3
20-ish minutes spent since arrival.
You take a moment to catch your breath.

Most of you are standing in the 30 ft by 20 ft empty room, the walls of which are punctuated by torch sconces. To your East is Carl in an abandoend bedroom, wearing a suspicious tiara and looking sheepish, John in the doorway in front of him. To the west, a diamond shaped room is lit by a brazier, granting you light into the room to the south and further down the west corridor. Murals cover the walls in this room, along with an old bloodstain on the ground. Ah yes, and somehow a giant misty doorway, flanked by statues of agony and worship of chthonic gods, has randomly appeared in the wall.

Exits:
North Wall, Memorial Room: A thick wooden door, swollen in it's frame. A horrendous odour comes from the North.
East Wall, Memorial Room: The door you have just come through, leading to the empty room.
West Corridor, Memorial Room: You see a long flagstone corridor, dissapearing into darkness after the brazier's light fails to reach further.
South Wall, Empty Room: Diseased Rat Lair, it's bulbous corpse must be stepped over to enter this room.
North-East Wall, Empty Room: Mysterious Ornate Bronze Door, flanked by finely carved blood-red statues.
East Wall, Empty Room: Carl looks guilty.

Inventory Changes
Each wand used in combat has lost a charge, but you don't need to worry about that right? Charges renew at sunrise.

Ran immediately got to work. First, he checked that book that dropped near him, and the gate for hints on what they are. Secondly, he turned to the group. ”Does anyone have anything to write or carve with?” If given something, he puts a 1 on the wand he used, to remind him what it is.

"Whew...." John attempts to breath a sigh of relief. Attempting to catch his breath. He shuffles returns his wands to his pockets and then picks up the potion and walks back into the room, offering the potion to Bobby. "Given the timing, this seems to have come from your wand." He attempts to say. He then makes his way over to Ran, joining him in studying the book that fell on him. "So, my first wand summons a book above the the caster.. Weird. But okay. My second wand didn't seem to do anything." The headless man attempts to say.

Spoiler: Ongoing Wand Questions (click to show/hide)

Going to guess that Wand of book has the effect of summoning a book or magic tome with a target of above the caster. Cure? Burn the book :P. But lets see what it is before we test that theory.
Two questions as well: do I get the 10XP for the Wand of Book Duration as a freebie, or is that not given since we got it for free?
And am I able to talk?

"It definetly Did, Mr Dullahan. Id guess that that wand might Turn the Casters Head Invisible Considering your...somehow alive without one I can see.." Ran stated, pointing at the mans head.

Turn 3 continued
20-ish minutes spent since arrival.
Ran examines the tome, realizing it is not an ordinary book but in fact a Spellbook, the pages scrawled in arcane runes and a magic worker's thoughtful scribblings. As a peasant the arcane arts evade you, but as you grow in experience perhaps learning magic will become possible.
Charm Person - Level 1
Comprehend Languages- Level 1
Erase - Level 1
Sleep  - Level 1
Friends - Level 1
Message - Level 1
Mirror Image - Level 2
Fool's Gold - Level 2

John Smith scoops up the potion that landed at his feet and brings it over to Bobby, as he squirrels his wands away back into his pockets. As Ran informs him of his headless situation, the Rat-Catcher approaches the summoned door. The huge bronze door fills the party with a sinister feeling, a carving above the archway speaks of the Lost Temple of Zaharan, honouring evil Chthonic gods of legend that you would realise have not been spoken of in many centuries.

Criptfeind - guess slightly more specific on the type of book and you will have it ;) You can gain the 10xp for the Instant duration. John can speak just fine.
Effect of Quirk:
Target of Quirk: Above the Caster
Duration of Quirk: Instantaeneous
Optional - Cure for Quirk:

Second of John's Wands quirks correctly guessed:
Effect of Quirk: Turn the Head invisible
Target of Quirk: Caster
Duration of Quirk:
Optional - Cure for Quirk:

35 XP up for grabs but I'm happy to split it 20 each if that works better, since John can't see it for himself without a mirror or pond reflection.

Inventory Changes:
Ran: Caster's Spellbook, 1 Slot
Bobby: option to take 1x Mysterious Potion, 1 Slot

[also no worries Crazyabe, I've been having the same problem so glad it's not just me. If it's easier to edit your post in with an action I'll keep an eye out. I've been able to edit easier then post but that might be a placebo..]

Even 20 split or maybe even John gets the full 35 works better I think, it’s his wand afterall

"Hmm…so I guess this wand opens a door to the Temple of Zaharan, then. " Ran stated, then searched the room the rat came from.

What? My head? John spends a few minutes clutching his head in panic to make sure it's still there before concurring with relief that it's only invisible. After that he finishes watching Ran flipping though the spellbook. "Looks like a spellbook of beginner spells? Or maybe beginner illusion spells or influence spells?"

Going to guess that it's a beginner illusionist spellbook? Or beginner spellbook? Or Illusionist spellbook? Is spamming out guesses like that okay?

For xp from wands, if people want I don't mind splitting or whatever, although I like the idea that generally the people who's wand it is should get the XP (at least, certainly in cases that don't take a lot of effort to solve) otherwise it feels like we might end up in a competition to spam out guesses asap. Which, maybe that's how the GM wants the game to work, but a slightly more laid back method of XP distribution from investigation where people aren't pressured to move quickly makes sense to me.

New rule: XP defaults to the caster unless the caster chooses to split the XP.

Since these wands are truly random, some of these wands are alot more XP lucrative then others, so it's nice to have an option to share the XP out.

30 XP gained for the successful Quirk Effect guess:

Effect of Quirk: Summons a door to the Temple of Zaharan
Target of Quirk:
Duration of Quirk: Instantaeneous
Optional - Cure for Quirk:

Turn 3 continued
20-ish minutes spent since arrival.
Ran the Rat-Specialist nimbly steps over the corpse of the monstrous rat without stepping in any suspicious green glowing putrescane oozing from it's limp body. The gnawed bones of a long dead adventurer sit along the south wall of the room. The leather armour is now in tattered scraps, but a backpack has remained intact. The outstretched bony arm leads to a bony hand, it's wrist severed, that clutches a glowing longsword.

The room has a 10ft square entryway where the corpse of the rat rests, before opening up into a room of the same dimensions as the previous - 30 ft wide by 20 foot high. The ceilings here are claustrophobic, you are surprised the rat liked this room.

John clutches his head, happy to feel it under his palms.

40 XP granted! I'm perfectly happy with multiple guesses. Some of the potential wand quirks are pretty hard to get. Also, really enjoying the wand names xD

Effect of Quirk: Summon a Spellbook
Target of Quirk: Above the Caster
Duration of Quirk: Instantaeneous
Optional - Cure for Quirk:

John walks over to the torches on the wall and attempts to take one down off the wall, then he goes over to the Donkey "Where the heck did ya get that Karl?" He asks, looking around the starting room near the cart to see if Karl found some sorta secret treasure room or something.

Is there a reason to not level up? Like if we wanted to save the XP to level up as a not peasant someday?

Sorry about not posting yesterday I had to take a neighbor to the hospital.

"Glad that rat thing is dead."
Take the potion and examine it, then go into the diamond shaped room and search it.

As for the wand I'm guessing it's quirk is that is spawns a random potion at the feet of someone who isn't the caster, also it seems to be instant.

no reason not to level up I could think of, but I thought I'd give the option just in case.

Also just to assuage some discomfort for everyone, I don't mind people's posting schedules at all. My work tends to get busy at random times so sometimes I can post alot, sometimes a little, sometimes I'm on a good schedule for a while and then it gets upended ect. So I don't think it's fair to ask a schedule from my players when I'm a chaos goblin. Totally understandable King Zultan given the situation, but even if it was a situation where you didn't have the energy ect. that would be 100% fine too and I'll never get bummed out over a forum game.

Also if people jump back in later after a break for whatever reason, I'm always happy to provide a synopsis to get back to speed. I'm sure other players would also be 100% happy to talk about their shenanigans that happen in the interim :p

Turn 3 continued
10 minutes passing || 30-ish minutes spent since arrival.
John finds the torch slides out the slot easily. It's old, but that doesn't seem to affect its effectiveness. If lit, it would happily burn for 1 hour and light 30ft around you, but must be carried in one hand.

Karl steps away from the North Wall, jostling his cart. Is that a seam in the stone? It's very hard to see.

Bobby scoops up the potion as he shares his relief over the Rat's death. The potion is a deep dark green colour that fades to a deep burgundary at the bottom of the flask. Swirling it around causes the colours to mix briefly, and then slowly seperate into a gradient again. Bobby enters the diamond shaped room, covered in murals, and begins to look it over in more detail now the threat of the rat monster is dealt with.

Bobby is searching a room so if people have additional actions or wish to search another room at the same time, pop em in now and I'll move the turn counter to 4. I will start counting the torch durability from turn 4 onwards.

New Mechanic - Light
The party is at the mercy of the light sources available in the dungeon. Light will be tracked and being in darkness will cause negative modifiers and consequences, particularly in battle. At the moment you have access to Torches - 1 Torch lasts 1 hour from the time it is lit and spreads light in 30 ft around it.

Inventory Changes:
John: +1 Unlit Torch, burns for 1 hour, 1 Slot (6 Torches can stack in 1 Bundle in 1 Slot)
Bobby: +1 Mysterious Potion, 1 Slot

Ill bump up Strength for now

Ran looted the backpack, taking it and its contents (After checking them) to hopefully improve inventory states, and put the first of his marked wands in it. He then also took the sword, and pulled out another wand from his pocket!

John lights his torch on the Brazier then heads to the north wall by Karl, where he'll Search the for the Seam in the stone to see what's going on.
