journal below . i was in a dark mood (appropriate I suppose)

===
Pirates attacked! Yarr! We fuckin' hid. Most of us. The four that were left outside.. *sighs heavily* lets just say, they wont be joining us this year for the costume party, except maybe as some hyper-realistic decorations.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

a mysterious fire started in the caverns. arson? it smelled like burnt troll hair for weeks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

some deep stalkers, those invisible lizard creatures, ambushed us as we collected webs. the fight was brutal and a few dwarves died.

the fire approached and consumed the bodies before they could be buried.

A spider attacked one of the masons. Freaky shit but the mason went and smashed that spider up like a good dwarf

Led created a copper right gauntlet - another piece for the mega-suit that is slowly being formed from various artifact moods over the years.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Most of these pieces are held on pedestals in the various metalworker guilds, pictured here.

The masons refuse to work. The baron blamed union agitators.

The first plants to colonize the post-wildfire ash of the cavern layer were a strange kind of species indeed - the 'chattering skull' variety of moss. Surely those are not actually tiny animated skulls laughing beneath my feet?!

A big vulture arrived, but I think it was secretly a dragon in an ill-fitting bird costume, as it began to breathe fire. and generally act like a dragon more than a vulture.

The dwarves felt secure as in my previous year as overseer, a great cavern wall had been built. there was only a single place where a theoretical intrusion might occur, that is underneath the small artificial pond created during the digging of the canals.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It was this very shallow pond that the vulture Hgurrok now swam through. The other side was a direct shot to the soft underbelly of the fortress. AHHHH

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The hammerguards arrived, but they remained ill-equipped and at half strength.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fighting was even, eventually resulting in a few of the dwarves being lit aflame. and then wrestling the large fluffy vulture just outside the second guard entrance. At one point, Feb the doctor blocked the doorway with their flaming body

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Eventually Hgurrok grew bored with dwarven flambe and moved inside. AND WAS TRAPPED BETWEEN TWO DOORS AHAHA i dont even care its exploit. I dont even care

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cleanup began. Oh so many bits and pieces around the cavern pastures! This bone is dwarf, this bone is zombie, this bone is stalker, this bone is vulture..

Spring arrived, and with it, Lein Hollowcavern - a giant viper beast! The snake thing spent a few days threatening the dwarves from that shallow pond (still unsealed, mind you) before the dwarves lured it into the cavern lake water spillway, and again locked the beast between two sets of double doors.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now Lein the Viper slithers in frustration, trapped there in the marble corridor.

A lumbering zombie ripped the head off of one of the hammerguards in the marble catacombs. brutal..

Finally, a good omen indeed. A steel artifact was created, a buckler, adorned with bigfoot leather and gemstones and an image of a flock of fungal crows.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh yeah. Pirates are still around. We should be good hosts and build them a tiki bar or something

may the spooking continue. play a little, play a lot! please join us in Lovecrafted :]

Thanks, Salmeuk!

The turn is now up to brewer bob, if they are free to take it, otherwise it'll pass to Rurik. Quantum has some life to deal with and Travis has some electricity to deal with.
If anyone wants a turn, just let us know!

Spookyfort V was just on Dwarf Fortress Roundtable - so please give that a listen! Thanks to Jonathan, Roland, and Tony for having me on.

I'll update the OP tonight!

Not sure if I have time before Friday, so let's keep the ball rolling and pass it to Rurik.

Alright! I know Rurik is reading up to date on the thread, so it's on to them when they're done!

bob, I put you after Rurik's turn.

Quantum and Travis, feel free to message me or post here if you're interested in a turn later.

Yeep! Thougt I had more time. Downloading now.
Minor snag, the save crashes on load.
downloading a fresh copy of 0.47.05...

Heh, issue fixed. 64-bit saves get angry when you try to open them with 32-bit versions.

Weeeeelllllll.... I was also super excited for my turn. I've played succession forts with friends, but this was my first time on a community map.

I had built an insanity shrine/alter/temple to the moon but my sad old laptop had a fit and corrupted my save.
I didn't have time to do it again.  But I also don't want to have this be a total waste of everyone's time.

So attached is the save with the spooky note "looks like the rain is really getting heavy."

Brewer bob is out until Thursday, so the save is up in the air for now. I won't have time to grab it until the end of the week. If someone else wants a go, by all means! Otherwise we'll wait until later this week for either me or bob.

I will take it

I definitely can't even do a week and so felt bad cramping any more dwarf fortress into my schedule, but play for a few days? I'm in lol don't expect ground breaking stuff though

Well, it is a game about digging, so if you don't break any ground, you're really messed up.

Thank you Frodo! Looking forward to your turn.
