Clicking on an object on the same tile as a cage (or whatever)

I've noticed that when something I want to click on, such as a piece of used clothing, is on top of a cage tile, when I try to click on it I always get the cage.  Is there a way to select the piece of clothing instead?

On the right side of the info box that comes up there are tabs for all the items in that tile.
