Tips on finding living Sliver Barbs?
« on: August 20, 2024, 06:35:20 pm »

I keep finding evil biomes where all the plants are dead, so it's impossible to farm sliver barbs.

It's a fifty percent chance for any natural evil region to have undead flora and fauna.

You can modify the world settings to generate more evil areas in the world, increasing your choices of embark areas (small and medium evil squares are the settings to increase). The evil areas generated by goblin forts and towers are the "unnatural" evil biomes that have no undead flora.

Evil biomes created by necromancers will always have undead flora, evil biomes created demons will only have it if the demon is aligned with death.

If you embark in an "evil" region generated by a tower or a goblin fortress, you will not see any "evil" plants or animals. You can see this if you gen a world with 0 small/medium/large evil tiles, then embark in any evil region you see. I have tried embarks in more than 10 areas like this, and it is always the same; and it is always dead normal plants around towers and either live or dead normal plants around goblin forts; and no interactions or "evil" creatures in any cases. The only change those spreading-evil biome changes cause are occasional animal-experiment wildlife and the purple colours on the map. I always assumed it was a place-holder for later.

Evil biomes created by necromancers and demons have effects based on their spheres. Here's what toady has said about the effects of those spheres.

"I think we just have blight, death, disease, deformity and nightmares.  The first three kill vegetation, while the others sometimes do.  The last two get "evil plants" and "evil animals" sometimes.  Nightmares get bogeymen."

Okay, so there is a chance for the sliver barbs but it is significantly lower than in the non-tower/fort "evil" biomes.
