Arnaldo walks into the makeshift infirmary with a bone saw in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other. He points to Matilda. "You there! You look competent enough, at least for our sorry lot. Give me a hand with this." He then approaches the wounded sergeant and hands him the bottle. "That's a pretty nasty cut you got there, boy. Ain't gonna be much good to us tryin' to fight with it. Drink that, it'll numb the pain a little. Only half though, we'll need the rest for disinfecting. And get something to bite down on, can't have any screaming."

Later, he finds himself surveying the oxbow traverses. Certainly he has a bright mind for engineering matters, but the simple matters of getting troops what they need pass over his head and it irks him to have to make mistakes. Still, he helps out where he can.
