By "direct" I meant as a director directs a movie. I just want to tell people what to do. I don't have a role so I can't redirect anyone.
I didn't get a role pm

This... is unusual.

Do we kill this, do we fear this wants to be elim?

Presuming this is entirely true, I can theoretically get why Mater would want to be given anything.  I'm currently scared to touch this.

Mater, I do not have a day kill.  Let's play pretend.  Let's pretend I have a day kill.  Who do you direct this pretend me to daykill?

Kind of an issue Magma when I don't know who you're talking about. Also why in the world would they stop if you haven't even placed a vote on them? Reads like you're just throwing shade and hoping town tears apart their own, while you can lay back and not say anything that incriminates you.

We don't even have everyone here yet given it's Sunday. I'm keeping a close eye on you Anime.exe.

Requesting a prod for AP and suggesting Discord direct message as likely to be an effective way to get him to notice.  He's talked before game started about the upcoming next round of champs, which he is in, and had mentioned not signing up for games right before this one started because he wanted to focus on champs.

Noted. Fewer than 24 hours have passed since the beginning of the game. If AP still hasn't posted four hours from now, I will prod them.

I'm kind of baffled that anyone even cares about my hidden read. I'll share it later. Who do you think it is?
The mod forgot to include a rule against cryptography, so if I wanted to be a jerk I could post an encrypted message saying who it is, then give you the key on Tuesday before deadline. Would that make you happy?

I find this hilarious.  Now I'm curious enough to read a bit, and I get that people change, but wow, look at the difference.

Here's Mater's first post in a B12 mafia game, about 3 years ago:

Hey everyone! I'm Magma Mater. I've had an account on bay12 for about ten years. I started playing DF a little while before that, but haven't played in quite a while (not since shortly after the vampire update came out). I saw recently that DF is coming to Steam soon, which got me interested again, so I did the whole "reset password" thing and started lurking the forum and eventually found this! I've played mafia (here they call it loup-garou!) a few times in real life, so I'm not really a newbie, but I figured I'd sign up for a newbie game so that y'all could show me how it works here.

Let's throw some questions out, because why not:

1. How much mafia experience would you say that you have?
2. Do you consider yourself good at the game?
3. What's your preference, town or wolf?
4. How would you describe your playstyle?

My answers:
1. I think I have a decent amount of experience but I know that there are people with a lot more than me.
2. I'm one of the better players in my group of friends but I'm not sure how well that'll transfer here.
3. I prefer town for sure, I get really nervous as a wolf and tend to clam up. I think that's a good way to read me... if I'm not posting a lot, I'm a wolf.  :D
4. I'd describe my playstyle as a little deliberate. I tend to ask a lot of questions, and not vote until I'm sure that the person is a wolf.

And his second post even directly says,

Why bother giving answers that don't really tell me anything? Not a rhetorical question.

Mater, why's your playstyle changed so much, given you were already a very experienced player before you made that post?

EBWOP, Mater, I apologize.  I know you do... or did... value answers that answered your question.

You ask... no, you state:

I'm kind of baffled that anyone even cares about my hidden read.

That's not a question, but I'll 'answer' it anyway; how a person thinks is very useful to read them.  What a person thinks, the same.  What your read is tells me and the rest of us stuff about you, and probably stuff about 1+ other players too, all useful for many of us to determine stuff for our individual wincons.

But you're a very experienced player.

Why are you playing like you are in this game?

But why keep your read hidden? Town already has little to no information to work with, keeping your suspicions to yourself prevents us from having more to discuss and therefore gaining more information.

Suspicious post. It's incredibly standard (like 99+% of games) to make mafiakills free, the OP even states that mafiakills are free this game. This post reads like mafia trying to convince town that he doesn't know anything about the mafia abilities, or trying too hard not to scumslip.

I'm going to explore this because you might be town.  I am town, and of course everyone gotta figure everyone out, but I don't want you dead if you're town and you seem a likely elim.

I like a couple things about your attitude; your pointing out that first game of yours I started peeking at you were maf in, and your claim here you're town is hilarious and golden, I love it.

This is my home forum, and I don't remember most of my 5-8 decade ago games when I was a newbie, but I was almost always town and the town games are the ones I remember.

Since coming back, I've been mafia exactly once, in a 5-player game where I expressly had a nk and a night vig (all townies also had a vig) and I asked if I could use them both.  Elsewhere (I was asked to go to champs, I played a lot there to prep and still play elsewhere a bit) I've been maf a few times, but only in games where NK was the only action I had (and it wasn't clear that if I had another action it would be a choice or not or if my NK was free.  Nobody told me my NK was free, I'm used to mods carefully stating free on anything that is free).

I'm town.  I am not staring at the mafiakill and thinking how to use it.  What I did there, that you say sounds sus, is answer Oliver, who focused on how a fruit action could be used to give cover to the mafia kill.  I don't want him to fall into that trap for a bunch of reasons that could hide the maf kill even if it wasn't free, I'm not even thinking about the OP and the fact the mafiakill's free, because I'm worried about the mechanics I've known and watched.

I've also watched MANY games here where my fellow players en masse worked to track who did what, because that proved who didn't kill; in NQT's BYOS game I was flipping out about people talking about even imagining they could track the actions people were taking and who might not be night killing because they were doing something else - in that game by the time it ended (N3) I had unlocked 17 'each night' potential actions and could have continued to unlock new ones that would have also been free, some free for me to use twice per night.

So I'm not thinking about the actual NK, I'm thinking about what I've seen and done and how known games work here.

This is actually Imp being Imp, which you won't know.  But I'm going to be Imp, and town, all game.  If you're town it's going to be quite useful for both of us to survive, and I'm concerned you're a likely early elim, maybe a ML, and I want us to have a chance to fairly eval you.

Imp the fruit You mentioned is a so called Fruit vendor role (Encyclopedia Link: wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Fruit_Vendor)
A fruit vendor is a role that can target a player each night and gift them a fruit (or similiar, ergo an more or less useless item that fits the flavour of the game) anonymously .
With Mafia kills usually being not multi-task able, this leads to the fruit vendor showing themself as town to the people it gifts the items to as soon as those discussion/revelation happens in the public thread or certain private group chats
It's also important to know this:  Bay12 mafia games often tend towards high complexity, we already should not expect that any individual mafia (or town or third party) player definitely has only 1 action, or that mafiakill definitely is not free or that the mafiakill definitely cannot be done with another action that may even affect a different target.  If that kind of power is in the hands of evil, some sort of balancing power will be in the hands of good (or the game's bastard, I didn't see that in our OP though).
Suspicious post. It's incredibly standard (like 99+% of games) to make mafiakills free, the OP even states that mafiakills are free this game. This post reads like mafia trying to convince town that he doesn't know anything about the mafia abilities, or trying too hard not to scumslip.
Is it?

It must be a new thing because I don't think I've ever played a game with that rule before. Maybe one or two but I don't remember them. Pretty much every game I've played the mafiakill is an action.

I didn't even know the standard mafia kill was free until you said it.

Tric being weirdly paranoid about things is very classic town TricMagic. My only reservation is that he's specifically paranoid about an SK which is a fairly wolfy things to be worried about on D1 with no evidence of their existance.

Tric's like the classic SK thinker though :D  Even when Tric requests roles, so related to this game, SK-related concepts are like core there.  Our FBYOR game, a totally wish-fulfillment game to my sense of it, he was a town dragon with ways to kill that could self-convert to an SK (or not, he got to decide based on how he used abilities) and even make his own SK-allies in the process.

Because it's Tric, I don't read 'thinks about SK/thinks like an SK' as a wolfy thing from him, it's NAI to my mind.

Good to know, I remember the goofy paranoia but didn't know it had specifically been around SKs since I left.

Think free as is no cost besides the action. Not saying it can't be a kill that is free to mess with claims.
