Might I suggest that, after we get more food gatherers, we assign a hut or 2 to thinkers?  If I’m right, they could work on research without our help.

Why do we need thinkers when we have a mud pit

So players don't have to spend actions on research?

Nonsense. We never "needed" to spend actions on research, we could have been happy using our actions to dig mud.

But we weren't.  We wanted to spend our actions thinking about great things, such as mud booze.

Assigning thinkers would just rob us of the glory of thinking.

Mud is the only resource we need.

Nonsense!  We must lead the gnomes into a New Age!  A Wood Age!

Bricks are obviously superior, since bricks turn into more brick production.

So there's a listed benefit to building a second wise gnome's hut, but we can also build a second workshop which doesn't have an obvious benefit.

I’ve given up on building a second wise man’s hut.  It can only be built from bricks and requires 10 bricks.  However, every time we get to 5 bricks, someone uses them to build a hut.
I didn't know anyone wanted another one, so I focused on industrializing.

Might I suggest that, after we get more food gatherers, we assign a hut or 2 to thinkers?  If I’m right, they could work on research without our help.
My preference is to have the workers click Boring Buttons That Need To Be Pressed Every Turn, while we do more interesting things like argue about what to research. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try getting a thinker, in case they unlock something or end up being more efficient at it than players.
