It's been a busy day, and everybody eats (-8 food)
Tool-making and use is slowly becoming a regular part of the community. Knives in particular seem to be the flimsy tool of choice. The Gnomes are still suspicious of how useful trees are, and prefer to opt for their beloved hexagonal bricks when working and building structures. Speaking of, movement is made on the housing crisis. While many Gnomes are content to sleep on cold hard ground, one Gnome decides enough is enough. A house goes up, and before anyone can blink, a new Worker moves in. He says the woods have been dangerous lately, with many lost pub-goers never being seen again in the depths of the forest.
He gets pat on the back and sent on his way to the brick pile, which he seems more then content to do. The mud-diggers and the brick-makers have been having a feud, with every attempt to build the bigger mud pile foiled. The mud pile is half the size it was a few days ago, while the bricks are stacked neatly and proudly nearby. Despite building a hut this turn, there is a plethora of bricks left over for other projects.
Even though there are no hired Thinkers yet, the research has slowly been making quite a bit of progress. The Gnomes spending their days daydreaming over woodworking estimate their just about halfway done. One Gnome has even started bonking sticks together, declaring there might be such a thing as 'Crude Weapons' to be created. Everyone has a good chuckle at that, who needs weapons?
No one talks about the Gnomes who hang out by the one piece of putrefied food, giving it a good sniff and murmuring about something called 'distillation'.
