Everyone leaps into action. More Strange Symbols are found and a crew of graffiti removing Gnomes sets to work, asserting their spiritual dominance over the clearing. The afflicted worker is kept under watch, trapped in the mud pit, where he sits shivering in the cold where the sunlight can't reach him.
One of the sick workers is brought into the tent, where the healing balms and soothing herbs quickly heal his ailments.
Attempts are made to forage for food, but only one Gnome successfully brings back some mushrooms. The conditions in the forest are treacherous, but so far no one has seen the inside of a vortex yet...
By the end of the day, the horrific howling becomes subdued. The wise man seems worried. "I wouldn't say the spirits are placated, more like without the symbols they have less power here. We need to find a way to satisfy them. If only we had lots of booze."
