Has anyone been attacked in adventure mode
« on: November 03, 2007, 10:06:00 pm »

I still have not been attacked by anything when travelling on the big overland map.

Either my world is corrupted , no one else has had a random encounter or like someone said,
my character has dreadful B.O. ?

I don't think you get attacked on the overland anymore.  I walked the span of a couple of maps I generated and no attacks.

It's also hard to find creatures in adventure mode while traveling the world in general.  It seems you can walk for five or ten minutes, going through different biomes, and sometimes not see one creature.      :(

When you do find them, it's like there are hidden pockets of them.  A herd of camels, a herd of zombie elks (that appear to be docile).  No living wilderness - no birds flitting around, squirrels, occasional deer, rabbit, gazelle encounters.  OTOH, Fortress mode handles the creatures entirely different - more creatures than ever show up near your fortress.

Now, to be fair, we were all warned that some of us might be disappointed with this release.

Adventure mode needs a lot of work - it isn't anywhere near as playable as the old version (though fighting giant spiders is something to experience).  *But* Fortress mode is 10x better once you get used to it - I find myself liking it more and more: it is not at all like the sandbox mode I thought it'd be.

hmm, looks like its a bug then.
When I posted a week or so ago about this Toady repied saying it might be a bug,e.g.its not a feature.

I'll put this in the bugs post if Toady doesnt reply here within the next week.

Haven't tried fortress mode yet in the new version 'cause of all the bug reports relating to it,
but if you reckon its that much better than the old version I just might.

I don't think it's a bug.  Townspeople don't tell you what creatures roam the surroundings as well.  They only tell you about sites.

I think random encounters should be in the game, so you can build up experience, or at least have something to do while traveling long distances.

Yeah I battled an ironman lately. I shot his head off. Then I bled to death after the other ironman behind me strangled me alot..!

Haha, And thus ends the story of my first adventurer ever! It was really fun!!

The lack of ambushes is Bug 484.  I'll handle it at some point.  Not sure what's going on yet.

They are too easy and can get very boring very quickly.

Pish...

This sandbox has the foul pee-soaked sand removed daily by Toady, who continuously replaces it with only the finest grain sand the world over.
