Congrats on Logem for keeping that win streak going,
and congrats to the folks who enter and manage this tourney, I'm still thinking about that one howard fight that ended with a punch.
Which I guess the owner gets to walk away from this bloodbath with a slightly stitch up pet... with more kills on the belt.

Congratulations Quantum Drop! The minotaur never stood a chance!

It looks like your lack of an adamantine weapon was your undoing againts old Logem...

Bit of a mixed bag for me this year - Don Kevin the red panda man bard was unceremoniously molluscated by the vicious crab man Verden in the first round, but Logem retaining his unidisputed champion belt made up for it.

Next year is the Tenth Tournament - back on the subreddit with probably more interest seems a wise decision.

(I'd love to see Divine Metal introduced next year...)

And here's wrapping up the bets for this year!

In the finals, four bets were placed - tied for the lowest this tournament with the semifinals - totalling 1396☼, the most out of any round this year.
Yet only 173☼ actually changed hands - seeing as the lion's share was wagered on the eventual victor!

1. Captain Drekkar, 1223☼ in 3 bets
2. Kraken, 173☼ in a single bet

And that closes out the ranking of our 26 bettors:

This year counted ten unlucky bankruptees
Seven more lost more than they'd gained, but made it out with at least some gold still to spare.
And past that, we have our lucky nine:

9. Emygnia, with 105☼
8. aspy523, with 107☼
7. Crystalizedmire, with 121☼
5. Dunitek and Moodyblues, tied with 124☼
4. BlackGriffin23, an inch ahead with 125☼

Lastly, the biggest winners at the betting tables this tournament:

In third, DeKaFu with 158☼
In second, Eric Blank with 518☼
And in first, Salmeuk with 847☼!

Congratulations!

This year, 57 bets were placed, down from 117 last year.
They totalled 5689☼ across all rounds, down from 10416☼.
The median bet was an even 50☼.

31 bets were won, and 26 lost. In total, 2505☼ changed hands.

As for the gladiators:

1. The standout crowd favourite was Captain Drekkar, with 1784☼ in 9 bets.
2. Next up is Howard, with 633☼ in 7 bets, despite only fighting in the first three rounds of five!
3. In third is Sir Capybarrian the Wise, with 548☼ in only two bets - one for 2☼, and one for 546☼, both in the same match, the round after an incredible upset against Steelblood Deathedge.
4. Steelblood Deathedge takes the fourth place with 488☼ in 4 bets...
5. And Kraken, our other finalist, places fifth with 427☼ in 5 bets!

On the other end, twelve gladiators did not inspire enough confidence with bettors for even a single bet - and sure enough, 9 of those 12 faltered in the first round.

Of the remaining three, the one to make it the furthest was Uvash, scoring two wins in matches where no bets were placed on either participant, before falling to Kraken in the quarterfinals.

The biggest upsets were thus:
1. Match 4A: Kraken (94☼) winning against Sir Capybarrian the Wise (548☼)
2. Match 3A: Sir Capybarrian The Wise (0☼) winning against Steelblood Deathedge (245☼)
3. Match 3C: Captain Drekkar (251☼) winning against Howard (373☼)

Everyone, thank you for your participation!
I hope you enjoyed the fights and the wagers - and to see you all back next year!

My thanks to Asheeer for the battle with Kraken, and to everyone for their congratulations on the win.

Speaking of which: congratulations to Kesperan on retaining the champion's title! In hindsight steel gear and an adamantine cutlass would probably have worked over skills and steel, but there's always next year.

Thanks to the organisers for running the tournament, and I'll see you all next year!

Just realised that humans will now be banned for future tournaments. Wild.

Perhaps not, the rules seem to only exclude animal (wo)men with the same race as previous champions, unless I've missed something.

On the rules page at the bottom it does outline "previously winning races" as banned. It would certainly be fair to ban humans as well, and that specific rule bans any race that wins, not explicitly animal people.
