I inquire, for lack of finding a better forum on the subject: why is it that strangling invariably causes the strangled to bleed to death and not to suffocate?

I think this is one case where it would be better to create a new post rather than necro a thread that is almost three years old.

I got nothing wrong with a good necro now and then.

And, for added fun, add the [AXE] skill tag to herrings, so they can be used to cut down trees.
You forgot to add shrubberies too.

I hate strangling.
My prefered action is to make some adamantine armor thats human sized, abandon, take the armor, then go on a rampage.

Geez, don't everyone answer his question at once.

I haven't gotten a chance to flesh out the nature of wounds yet, and right now it interprets all serious throat damage as both a breathing and a damaged circulatory spraying problem.  So it's kinda like Road House or something, where the warthog said something about prison and you got upset and tore its throat out.

Once you put a chokehold on, the creature can no longer breath.  So if you aren't actively gouging its throat out (the current strangle command), it'll eventually die.  This will be altered in the future once wounds have more resolution.

This will probably be at least a little different in the next version, due to the revamped wound system.

I appologise for playing ~mancer with this forum. I failed to notice the date, as per it appeared at the top of my search.

I do thank you for the answer, Footkerchief!

I shall be more attentive next time.

Oh wow. I remember this thread! This is back when I was just a quietly lurking newbie here, instead of a quietly lurking... current me.
It's like a time capsule!

Plus wrestling is no longer there as a skill, but is split up into different skills. The entire combat and training has been revamped.

Not exactly.  There's still a wrestling skill, but now it's used just for actual wrestling, i.e. grappling etc.  It no longer includes punching, kicking, biting, and dodging, all of which have their own skills now.

Actually, dodging is wrestling still.

Sorry, we were talking about the upcoming version.  I can see how the present tense made it confusing.

Actually, strangling is the only way you can take down some monsters. That's how I took down the one and only demon I have ever successfully killed.

I preferred beating it in the face with a hammer. But, you know, to each his own.

Take them on embark for cheap woodchopping.
