This crab-like creature is the native of Beta Eridani III ("Scrapheap") and is as wonderous as it is crabby. Starting from its pleasant rainbow-oilslick coloring to its massive 2-3 meter size (when fully grown) and its high intelligence (displayed in the use of tools) there is a lot to like.
Let's delve¹ a little deeper into those statements:  What makes it crab like is a thick exoskeleton and a number of various limbs- two for swimming, four for walking, and two for delicate manipulation (an attentive reader will notice this totals 8 legs and distinguishes Carcinus Insanus from "Earth crabs", which have 10.) The coloring is reflective, which allows C. Insanus to hide better among the rocks of it's native habitat, and produces a pleasant rainbow-like pattern when exposed to air. When fully grown the animal can reach the size of 3 meters (0.033 football fields) most of it's length (though not mass) concentrated in the walking legs. C. Insani form intricate hierarchies based on "dance-offs", where the animals will engage in a ritualistic endurance contest to show virility and dominance. They are also known to make use of tools, such as sticks to get to their food.
