You leave the library and descend all the way to the ground floor. The heavy trapdoor gives you some trouble, but you lift it. The smell of lye and salt do little to mask the stench of rot emanating from the basement.

Taking a small bug-lamp, you walk quietly between the corpses, desiccated or rotten, and quite a few skeletons. Their bones have new, paper-and-glue joints in place of the rotten ones. Black rope binds their skulls and their hips in some ritualistic manner which you do not understand.

You pace about the basement, reaching one end of it, far from the staircase, when you hear a quiet groan.

You turn around, but all the corpses are on their tables and inside their naves.

A) Leave quickly.
B) Investigate the noise.
C) Continue examining the corpses.

A. Best not to be poking at the corpses if they're awake enough to complain about it.

You decide to investigate the noise.

You pace around the tables and the corpses, until you hear the groan again, louder, to your left. You approach a corpse, partially rotten, of a woman, the skin rubbed in salt and blackpetal balm to keep it fron releasing its pungency. The corpse's head is tilted towards you and its jaw is slightly ajar. Black folds of cloth keep the hands, legs and wrists bound together so that the body, even if brought back to life by accident, couldn't escape.

It's jaw twitches and another groan escapes the depths of its putrid throat.

You do not know any spells to banish the residual energies of undeath from the corpse. You get a faint idea it shouldn't be kept here.

A) Time to alert Master Yorick that there's a living corpse in the basement!
B) Shrug and continue on with your investigations of the basement.
C) Venture upstairs and lock the basement, for now.

A. Yorick will probably dismiss her, dissect her, or otherwise deal with her- and with some luck he'll want as little to deal with it as possible and teach us how to do so too.
