Contrary to popular belief, elves do in fact have beards!

Elves have had beards since beards were added to the game, it's just that prior to the steam release they were incapable of styling said beards, so they wouldn't appear in their descriptions. You could still hit an elf in the face with a blunt weapon and end up hitting their beard pre-steam.

Because of hair length works a creature with facial hair that has "extremely long hair" also has an extremely long beard so long as it doesn't have a styled beard.
Since goblins and elves are naturally immortal their facial hair grows infinitely long.

After the steam release humans, elves, and goblins were given the ability to style their hair but their civilizations weren't given any hairstyling options, so you only see beards in the descriptions of individuals who are members of dwarven civilizations.
However elves and goblins were not given graphics for their facial hair so it's invisible on their sprites.

So next time you see an elf, imagine them with a incredibly long beard!

Edit: Human and Elven civilizations now style their hair, but elf and goblin sprites and portraits still don't depict beards.
