On the northern coast of Lake Forlorn, Lost, a small town of only a few thousand, goes about its own business. It gets its fair share of visitors from out of town: Family, friends, and the occasional passerby. There isn’t much to see, a bar and restaurant, a small general store, a cafe with a real sword hanging above a wood fireplace, and a novelty bookstore with a gothic motif run by a thin elderly man. Any who enter his bookstore seldom find what they were looking for, but nevertheless leave with a simple warning.
“Do not go beyond the pine trees.”
When inevitably asked why, he’ll tell you that it’s trouble, that he can feel it in his bones, that danger lurks there. Once he spoke of a ritual that hadn’t been finished and the demons required that blood be spilled, but the patron had left the store before he could finish. These people don’t think too much of it. But some do. You do.
It's a long story of fighting back, but here you are now, beyond the pine trees. You have found the Chosen One and readied for a final confrontation with Evil itself.
This is
Demonology, a Mafia game where all available Actions for Good and Evil alike are known. The game is meant to take influence from longer running franchise games like Paranormal and Supernatural, evolving with time. Currently, this game is a prototype, and is therefore extremely unpolished. You are welcome and encouraged to ask questions, comment, suggest changes, and point out obvious flaws in the setup either pre- or post-game, and these may affect the game as it goes. If you have ideas, you can also throw them out, and they may be added!
The current list of Actions and Roles will be posted in the following post.
Evil is also quite pernicious in this game and has developed countermeasures against you that you may not recognize. These have been noted as follows:
- Evil choose 1 of 3 Chosen Ones they wish to fight.
- All chats (Evilchat included) are locked during the Day, and cannot be posted in (though you are free to read any messages from previous Days.) You may not quote from a chat, either.
- Non-Evil characters will be given a Role to fakeclaim that they Investigate as (though they will not have all of those Actions.)
- The Evilkill is allowed to use a Called Shot, allowing Evil to call the Role of the target (This fails against fake Roles.)[/li][/list]
- Players may only target each other Player up to once per Night unless any extra Actions are (Sync)hronous
- Abilities are Ranked, with the highest power being Ranked I and decreasing to different levels based on the Ability.
- Abilities contain a Rank 0 Ability, only available by Overloading an Ability.
- All Players start with 3 Action Points every Night Phase and 1 Action Point every Day Phase.
- Days are 72 hours long. Weekends only count for 24 hours. Extensions are reserved for extreme situations. Day length will gradually decrease as the game goes on.
- Nights last 24 hours or whenever all actions are sent in and processed. You MUST send in your action(s) (or send in that you're doing no action), or you will be assumed missing.
- You may post a maximum of 25 posts per real life day and 50 posts per in-game Day (25ppd/50ppD). It is recommended that you post at least once per real life day and required to post at least twice per in-game Day.
- Hammers in effect. If a player receives a majority of votes, the Day ends and the player is chosen for execution immediately. If you accidentally post something after the hammer, you MUST edit your post and remove all content.
- No editing posts, except after Hammer.
- Posting after Hammer is strictly forbidden, though. Don’t do it.
- No PMing to anyone but the mod.
- No Quoting PMs from the mod. You may paraphrase your PM, but if you break this rule, you will be banned from future games I run.
- No Quoting chats you are in.
- No posting in chats you are in during the Day.
- Official Votecounts will be posted at least once every 24 hours, though more will be attempted.
- I cannot answer questions about a player's role unless that player's role is available to be seen (e.g. Roleflips.) I cannot answer questions about your role in-thread. I can, however, answer generic questions. I will simply ask you to rephrase the question, if I deem the question is bad.
- Please vote in Red (bold is optional). Do not post anything else in red. Mamobo will be watching, and it’s very partial to it.
Common questions:
Q. What is a Cycle/Phase?
A. A Cycle is a Day and Night Phase. There are generally two Phases in a Cycle.
Q. Can I use more than one Ability during a Phase?
A. You can spend any number of Action Points that you have on Actions, so long as the total number of Action Points is less than or equal to your total number of Action Points.
Q. Can I use the same Action during a Phase?
A. If you have enough Action Points to use it, and the Action doesn’t have a (Single) trait. Actions might have limitations on the number of times it can be used in a Night.
Q. Can I self-target?
A. Not unless the action specifically states that you can. It is now labeled [target/self] or [self] for easy viewing!
Q. Can I target 2 or more people?
A. Only if stated in the action with [target x(some number)] or [target1] [target2] … [targetN].
Q. If my action doesn't have a Phase to be used in, can I use it any time?
A. Yes!
This game will model
Natural Action Resolution. Essentially, any time actions would interfere with others, NAR takes effect, other all Actions interact with each other normally. If, failing this, the Actions still cannot be resolved, all offending actions fail. (E.g. Two Roleblockers blocking each other will have their actions fail.)
If a player is not a viable target at the time they are acted on, the action fails. Players will be notified of this failure. Any limited shots will be refunded if an action is blocked or fails.
Quick Q & A for alignments:
Q. Does the Evil have a Kill they can use at Night?
A. Yes. The Evil has access to the following group Action, but may have more Evilkill Actions:
{AP1/2/3} (Night, Evilkill) Evilkill [target]: The target is Killed. You may increase the cost of this Action.
