My turn is completed!

Image 1: Tavern

Longnight: New Day
Spring 180 in Romekanan

Nothing too important happened for the rest of the year, nor the start of year 180. The elves returned our favor and launched a feeble ambush on the surface. We had no lookouts, not even watch dogs, and they made it easily to the staircase. All the available troops were mobilized with great haste to prevent elves from getting into the fort. Astesh ‘Jschlatt’ Gidthurletmos’ squad was the only one to arrive in time. This would be a good chance for them to prove themselves.

Astesh stormed the staircase, reaching the surface with his teammates, Urist ‘Gimli’ Skyhalls and Atir’s husband, Likot ‘Fit’ Hatchetmobs. The rest of his squad followed, and the small siege of elves and war bobcats was quickly broken. These sieges are kind of sad. I wonder if the giant animals the elves once domesticated have been driven to extinction in this war.

I found out why 'Jennifer' the mayor wasn't wearing clothes. The cloth shortage was just an excuse. She claimed being part of some elite fighting group called the Lucid Stones, and claimed to be wearing its official uniform, complete with a named pickaxe which was nowhere to be seen. I suppose ex-military have a right to some nostalgia but this has crossed the line to some weird territory. Oh, looks like she finally got over herself and picked up some civilian clothes.

I installed some gem windows in her quarters and paved some rough stone staircases, and I think the fort looks beautiful.

Raids:

Image 5: Missions during the turn. They couldn't actually raze it

Forgotten beasts fought:

Sasmcith Fataldives, fire-breathing ceratops - killed
Guthstak, emerald-colored crow - killed
Lakesprayed the Ungodly, winged slug - captured

Final thoughts:

I'd be happy to play another turn on this fortress. If only I have the time... D:
EDIT: I don't know... i basically spent my holiday week playing DF, i don't know how much time i'll have before christmas
EDIT 2: Good thing is, if we stick to this fort, future turns will be quicker as most things have been set up already. I like this fortress a lot so it could be fine to pass many years here

Please nickname dwarves when you're playing! I named a lot of dwarves and I think the nicknaming amount is pretty good again, but most of them were nameless when i played and that was a bit boring :/

I just realized that we've already seen and heard about the fortress Cryptrush when Tirist Steelcrown visited it.

To the south lies the fortress of Cryptrush, home to many monks and seat of the Kingdom of Ilatir. There are even goblins here, bearing the sigil of The Demon of Wilting, a local goblin civilisation. I hope they are not looking for trouble. I resist the urge to grip my weapon and engage them in conversation. A shifty goblin hammerman tells me the Fortress of Bones rules Cryptrush, and the seat of King Kogsak Reignedcopper is here too. I descend into the fort looking for any equipment that might help on my journey north, or perchance even to ask the king to support my diplomatic endeavours!

Deep inside the fort there is a scene of terrible battle. It seems the simmering tension between the goblins and dwarves has spilled over! I exit the central stairway to bloodshed and carnage. In the next room are two horribly deformed walking corpses... night butchers. It seems there is a necromancer in our midst!

Among the corpses I find several spectacular artifacts. A silver axe, a steel spear, a coal figurine of Forgotten Beasts. The necromancer does not see fit to reveal themselves. A frail general cowers in the corner. I feel uneasy. I do not know who is an enemy and who is a friend. I decide to put down the foul corpses. I strike at the first and miss. Obok then kicks it so hard it flies across the room and splits apart. I take the other's neck with my axe. There is a great deal of tension in the air, and I decide that now would be a good time to leave.

At the surface I bump into none other than King Kogsak himself. He is naked bar gloves and shoes and his teeth run with the blood of another. He tells me he is now known as The Portentious Web. There are some shenanigans going on here. Why is the king slaying his subjects? Why are there corpses everywhere? What is up with all the goblins? Has the king been corrupted? I decide to leave the fort at once before yet more violence erupts.

EDIT:

Holy. Shit.

Nice work! Fort looks really nice! I probably would just lock the surface door whenever not having a raid actively sent out.

I'm hoping we get some good progress done! I'd love to see some years pass and carve out a stable land for our future dwarves to live in! So far every single settlement is surrounded by enemies!

I'm in a similar boat on time. Realistically in games like these I only get maybe three days out of the seven to play? I'm just too busy now.
So, for me there's no real pressure to make the most of the time if the turn comes up. Get what you can done and have fun! If it becomes too chore like you probably wouldn't wanna pick it back up!

@Salmeuk I think you are up now

idk if Avolition wants another turn! I know Kesp was busy the last few times, but its been a couple months now so we can check in.

Oh wow! Just realized we killed the enemy king! Kogsak!

That is a huge win for us! Maybe this war will be faster than we thought.... Probably wanna go ahead and prepare the occupation squads!

Image 1: The purge of Cryptrush

Yeah it was a crazy battle. Looking into the legends, it seems to have been a full-scale purge of the entire leadership of the fortress and King Kogsak's court. I mean, did we miss someone or did we get them all?

After the battle, the newly appointed champion of the realm, Stukos Bellsgod, was summoned to meet Kogsak's son, the new king Monom Konosotung. He was ordered to launch a retaliatory assault on the attacking dwarves. Clearly mistaken on where the assault came from, they attacked Beregath, the Forest of Burning.  Iton `G0rd0nfreeman' Fencednature the Golden Club of Diamond, one of the Wrathblades who killed Omba in 173, countered the attack with superior planning, and Stukos was taken as a prisoner.

Image 2: Retaliation at Earthenjungles

So, the new king Monom. Important to note here is that her mother lived in Gateheaven for the last two years of her life, before she was murdered by the Vampire Progenitor Logem.

The old king Kogsak Reignedcopper, the Portentous Web, married Goden Drumpaints in year 98, and Monom was born. This was just before she was convicted of embezzling funds for seven years in prison. After four years, Kogsak seems to have gotten other ideas and divorced her.

For whatever reasons, the king went on a mysterious murder spree in 159, I assume this was the bloodshed that Tirist 'Kesperan' Steelcrown witnessed with his own eyes? Not much seems to have happened since then, until the king came upon an elephant and thought he could win. Spoilers: he couldn't.

Image 3: The story of Kogsak and Goden

I’m confused. Why are we attacking The Wordy Dye? Have we run out of elves and humans to slay?

Maloy suggested it, and i was good with it so i did it. I guess this game has turned from Dwarves vs Other races, to Us vs Everybody else. Makes the story a bit more dark? Works for me, as to me this story is about our dwarves continuing to survive against overwhelming odds, and probably making very stupid decisions on the way

We only have two ruined worldgen fortresses, so the plan is to conquer theirs. Also there's been a lot less enemy sieges and the game feels a bit easy, so it's to add more enemies for us. At least, that was my logic

King Kogsak was a bit of a homicidal maniac I suppose.

Yeah we're a little bloodthirsty.

Also though we blame them for not helping us while the humans and elves genocided and enslaved us.
Plus if we occupy all their mountainhomes the dwarves of our civilization will have somewhere peaceful to settle!

All our other settlements are surrounded by enemies and are war zones

this had me laughing.. do NOT test the elephants.

I wish there was an easier way to get civilization overlays to display on the world map. Some kind of area of control visualization would help me follow along with the strategic level conflicts

Sorry I've been MIA on this game for this week!

Uhm Salmeuk is up next on turns if he wants to do it, otherwise I can message Avolition.

I think this will get harder again soon, because I put us in attacking distance of a necromancer tower lol They haven't seen us yet and if we get really bored we can just up the number of enemies who can attack us. OR piss off the Union again. They were the ones sending armies of metal armored soldiers who were all talented fighters

day's journal, three seasons played:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

more pictures soon. I will pass on the save tonight once I find time to upload it. I forgot to journal this but the pillaging went quite well with many kills and victories for all dwarfs involved. It was merely the return to Longnight itself that resulted in those regrettable deaths.

It was only a few days later that the shelled, web-slinging honeyeater Amung Togalkezat, 'Stormdanger' attacked. A well-constructed staircase provided the beast access to the surface layer from the caverns, but the bird had different ideas, instead flying into the middle layers of the fortress through some dug out hematite veins.

As the valiant warriors returned from their pillaging, they encountered the horrible Amug and were kicked or gored one by one…

'LordPrimordious' and then 'Gimli' fell to Amug. Then, 'Jschlatt' arrived and began the fight of his life.
Multiple cuts to the great bird's legs stunned the beast, and allowed 'Fourin' to follow up with further strikes.

Amug was finally defeated by the sword of 'Jschlatt' in mid-Summer of year 180.

The epic of Stormdanger! ...I have no memory of leaving those hematite veins open to caves, sorry about that... Aaand the rise of Astesh 'Jschlatt' Gidthurletmos continues!

I love it when this game turns cute little birds into horrific giant monsters

Lakesprayed the Ungodly was moved into a gold-door sealed clear glass block display case overlooking the cavern lake grotto.

eXCEPT FOr the part where we left a small gap in the glass display and it slipped right through lol

The first squad arrived and quickly cut the slug to pieces, however, 'Fourin' took a full breath of that poisonous gas during the fight. Later on, they perished from affliction while training. Horrible !

Wow, that was unexpected! Construction mistakes so often lead to shenanigans. We've had a lot of forgotten beasts roaming at large in the fortress in recent turns, but somehow it hasn't caused massive disaster yet. Rip Gimli, Primordius, Tail, Leather, Danny Phantom, Fourin and Lakesprayed

Lots of cool stuff on your turn and nice read too!

Damn the forums are having a lot of server issues lately at least for me

same on the forum issues. . I have half an idea to start a succession game discord if this lag persist s

Oh yeah, that could be a great idea actually. For one thing, i think these forums are great for preserving information, but pretty archaic and clumsy for communication. Also thinking about it, a server dedicated to all things succession forts and succession games could be very nice for talking about different games in the same place

would be a fitting end! my turn's FPS was ~25 and was slowly dropping, and tbh our soldiers are really powerful but I was more focused on building than raiding.

its possible the military would slowly migrate to the new fortress and we can pick up where we left off.
