My thought process is that anyone hiding an Emerald is scum
How did you arrive at that conclusion exactly?  For all we know, emeralds are nothing but fancy rocks for anyone who isn't you.  This means that the only aspect determining the value of hiding the fact of their possession is your alignment and whether they give you the capacity to do tremendous good or grave evil.  Revealing ownership of them says more about the player's view of you than their own role.
Alright, I'll accept that there are plenty of reasons to hide the Emerald if you want, but a lot of the reasons presented have been about stopping me from getting a second win condition, which is a blase answer, and basically makes me assume that people used that as a means to 3p hunt me.  I'm also not using the evidence of someone hiding the Emerald as evidence that they're scum, as you've noticed that I haven't gone after Elephant for hiding it.  I even knew he had it.  Indeed, I think he's actually using that information in a rather sneaky way, perhaps trying to bait me into stealing the Emerald from him.  It's a security measure AGAINST me.  It is rather clever.

So, your argument breaks down pretty fast, unless you're suggesting that I'm lying about that being my motivation.

Imp: I think you'll be fine when your sheer joy in playing simmers down into a desire to improve. You are, after all, a veteran, albeit a rusty one.

Since we are nearing the end of the day, there is something I need to reveal:

I have a night ability to add a person to a chat. I plan to use that ability on Fallacy.

This means Fallacy and/or I will likely act a bit different tomorrow. That is to be expected, since we will be able to talk about the game in a private chat.
Hopefully, one or both of us will even play better!
Anybody but FoU is a better target.

Because people find the two of you to be rather scummy and possibly teamed, and you could hide your Action by pretending to have done that.  It would be better to use it on someone that people don't think you would be teamed with.

Probably.  Also, you can't pick me.

@Jack:
You wish to share information in private, yes?

Well, assuming the lover removal doesn't work and that you are town then there's a high probability that scum will target you, Jack, which means FoU would die alongside you and both of your private information would be lost. This would be harder to see if you are not town, so it's understandable.

If you form a chat with anybody else, then in the event of your death then your chat ally could pass this information along, which they will probably want to do if you pick someone who's town. I don't think you should even state who your chat target will be, unless this is some bluff to make people think you're going to target FoU, otherwise I think it's a bad move.

PPE:
Hm, should I announce the person?
No. Preferably somebody who you think is likely town and also isn't FoU.

Jack also said I'm 100% town so I seem like a pretty good target, just saying. I even have a role that is mostly just information gathering. Not that I trust Jack at all to pass private information along in the event of my own death. So probably pick someone else.

Well, I have more than 1 shot, so maybe later. I don't think anyone is killing you over "Emerald Knowledge".

Thanks but I'm actually a newbie come back after a 10ish year break.  This is my 12th game ever, 6 back when.

My reasons for not saying if I have an emerald or not have to do with extreme distrust of you.  You're my top scum pick, after all.
