Custom engraving of weapons and armour
« on: October 03, 2023, 05:21:45 pm »

What it says on the tin, pretty much. It's always kind of annoyed me TBH that objects can't be custom-engraved the way walls and floors can. You're pretty much totally at the mercy of artifact makers when it comes to decorating objects, and the end result is often that the image on your artifact warhammer is something completely random and arbitrary (such as a pair of lentil plants) rather than (as should be the case) something meaningful to the player. Does anyone else feel a similar way? Figure I can't be the only one who wants to engrave custom images depicting my favourite worldgen battle onto the weapons and armour of my militia.

It's actually pretty terrifying to think about having all of your fat melt off into grease because you started sweating too much.

Of course. This would be a perfect addition for the engraving-freaks like us who feel the need to draft up intricate and hyper-specific image combinations.

one cute addition might be that, when a dwarf bestows a name upon a normal item, that dwarf would then engrave the name into the artifact, perhaps at an increased skill level.

the ability to attach gemstones to weapons.. also appropriate here

Shouldn't the suggestion say specifically "Engrave/Encrust/Stud/Embroider Armor and Weapons?

You can already tack on custom images onto furniture and some petty civilian clothing i think by embroiding cloth and leather, by supplying thread through a leatherworks/clothier respectively. It adds a lot of additional value actually depending on how qualified the worker is, and the individual value of the thread/material.
