Non-lethal beatings
« on: October 02, 2023, 12:32:30 pm »

Beatings should not target the convict’s head, neck and upper body and automatically stop when the victim passes out. Beatings should also be considered more severe than prison time. It sucks that the game basically punishes you for having a decent fortress guard. You should also be able to assign a war hammer to your hammerer. In addition, executions should go on until the convict has died instead of stopping after 50 strikes.

If you're so sure that you're gonna end up killing all of dwarven civilization, why not make a statue depicting 2147483647 dead dwarves, all of which are burning? Name it something good, like Deaddead the Dead Dead Dead-Dead of Dying. Just put it in the main hall or something, as a grim reminder that they're all gonna die.

You should also be able to assign a war hammer to your hammerer.

Kind of seems like this feature would exist solely to let the player circumvent punishments, given there are ways to arrange fatalities if the player needs an undead to be ordinary dead.

In addition, executions should go on until the convict has died instead of stopping after 50 strikes.

However, this would then result in perpetual hammering if the hammerer is incapable of dealing a fatal blow.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

Eventually the cumulative damage would result in the convict exploding into gore.

I'll +1 choosing the hammerer (or other executioner's) tool for the job.

More than once I've used mods or gotten lucky with artifacts to have something real fancy or made of platinum or what have you and set it aside hoping he'd use it for executions, only for the hammerer to go and get a spare hammer lifted from a goblin's carcass to use instead.

Also most hammerings are already fatal, it's usually only very tough or lucky convicts who survive them. Assuming the hammerer isn't especially weak, anyway. At least I've never seen someone survive the full sentence that wasn't an unusually tough unit (undead or not.)
