Future historians fondly remember this era as the start of the Age of the Dragons where the once subjugated beasts rose to rule Gempria now that their masters had disappeared.
Gempria: Reign of the Mannered Dragons
Few could have foreseen the rise of an eccentric dragon who rambled about table manners and who was obsessed with a strange artifact that held a slumbering God-King's spirit. It all started when a spirit of the night who was none other than Keseem visited the Dragon and gifted them the Crystal Tear, a powerful artifact which held the cultures and knowledges of the past. Fanatically inspired, the Dragon went to teach his kin the ways of table manners, in that way bringing to them the ways of civilization.
The Dragons rallied around an emblem to symbolize their newfound ways: the Fork, symbol of civilization. They brought more Dragons into their folds, the ripple becoming a wave unstoppable. The group became a kingdom, and the kingdom became an empire. This also brought to them the attention of the Mirrored Glories, who gleefully helped the Dragons develop. For science.
The Draconic Empire of the ForkAnd so arose the Draconic Empire of the Fork, where Dragons eat with the fork to the left, the knife to the right, and the spoon to the center. Their society is one of a great many codes, where proper observance of said codes brings prestige and respect from their kin. It takes great effort and even talent to truly master the complex ways of the Dragons, and they have become fairly snobbish toward those who fail to grasp the essence of good manners.
The Empire is structured in a hierarchy where manners are synonymous to influence. There are three social strata, and one can rise the social ladder by passing specialized exams testing their knowledge of manners.
- The Upper Gentry, for those who have mastered draconic manners.
- The Gentry, for those who display exceptional skill and observance of manners.
- The Populace, for those who have yet to pass the exams.
- The Uncivilized, for the criminals and those who made a grave misstep in the observance of manners.
The Empire is led by the Dragon Emperor advised by the High Council of the Upper Gentry, whose members are selected among the most gentlemanly and wise Dragons of the Empire. All of them happen to be blessed, as one would naturally guess. The Mannered Dragon is the most respected member of the High Council, and is respectfully called the Master of Manners, Dragon Most Gentle and Cultivated. With the help of the Mirrored Glories, they keep leading the Empire toward the future by using the Crystal Tear to further social and technological advancements.
Lawless Dragons, wild Mana Cores, Giant Snakes and Reed Spiders pose no serious threat to the Draconic Empire of the Fork.
Dragons and HousesThe Emperor and the High Council have made their capital in a place of old historical significance, the ruins where the Palace of Neetocris resides. They have repurposed the magnificent Palace, decorating it further and organizing grandiose gatherings of the high society where good manners are respected, and civilized words exchanged.
By doing so, the Dragons obtained the good graces of the sentient blessed homes. They also really appreciate the good manners of the Dragons, who so far are excellent hosts. In return, the Dragons have started helping the blessed homes spread by building new homes out of special pieces that seem to hold part of a sentient home consciousness. This symbiotic relationship is to the benefit of both Dragons and Blessed Homes.
Kingdom of Cotton: Unrest and Cotton PriestsWhen a new divine order came to them, the Council of Sand repurposed the entire workforce into one that would further technological advancements and lost knowledge redicovery. Unfortunately the apparition of the Reed Spiders greatly hindered the reconversion, and the cotton culture had become too ingrained in the kingdom to easily root it out. Internal dissent, the looming threat of the dragons of the south, the increasing casualties from reed spiders... all of these issues would have caused the collapse of a normal nation.
But the skillful and blessed Council of Sand managed to quell the social unrest and move some of their plans ahead with the creation of the Cotton Clergy, entirely made up of Cotton Shrubs. Their role in society was to appease the masses and spread the word of Omnipotence, which worked very well to calm the people, at the cost of even more resistance to change.
Kingdom of Cotton: Draconic Invasion! The Kingdom of Cotton would have managed to develop within plan had an incident not happened with the Draconic Kingdom of the Fork: an eminent diplomat of the Kingdom of Cotton made a grave mistake when receiving a Dragon diplomat. They put the tableware in wrong order, and served dishes in the wrong order. This alone would not have provoked a diplomatic incident, but the diplomat had the gall of insulting the diplomat due to a personal trauma against dragonkin who had burned his grandpa's cotton fields back in the day: he called the diplomat a lizard.
In the next hour, the Empire declared total war on the Kingdom.
The Great Sentry rose, and with shields of power and lasers mighty mowed the advance force of the Dragons. But they came back with anti-laser relics, crafted by an old civilisation that warred against a Kingdom of Laser. Once the Great Sentry had been defeated, the mighty dragons conquered the nation of farmers in less than a week.
After much negotiating, it was accepted the Kingdom of Cotton would become a vassal of the Draconic Empire of the Fork. In addition they would renounce to their military, be forbidden from researching technologies of war, and in exchange the Council of Sand would not be deposed, and they would be allowed to continue on with their cotton farming lives undisturbed.
North: the Heart Beats Strong
Higher north, the creation of Esugomot proved crucial in stabilizing the unknown nature of the North. To the Unknown North, the concept of Mana was like poison. Unknown became Mana, generating a violent chain reaction that converted the near entirety of the North into pure Mana. In an instinctive attempt to escape, the remaining Unknown escaped into the heavens, where the Sky-Veil and its obfuscating properties protected it from the Mana.
The now converted North has become a vast ocean of flowing Mana, named the Mana Ocean. It expands beyond any known horizons, and it is rumoured to have no end beyond its horizon.
The Reborn Kingdom of ManaThe transformation of the North completely eradicated the unrest within the Kingdom of Mana. A wave if fervor and hope washed over the Kingdom which saw an explosive growth furthered by the rising power of Mana all over North. One peculiar discovery in the ruins of an ancient city at the edge of the South led to the creation of the Northcrafts, sailed ships capable of riding the currents of Mana to fly across the skies and the Ocean. The further they explored, the more land they discovered as high concentration of Mana transformed into fertile islands.
The Kingdom of Mana heard of the rise of the Dragons in Gempria. Wary of the creatures who once served as warmounts of the Gavrasratii warriors, they erected a wall across the southern border and developed their military in case the Dragons would turn as greedy as their past masters.
From the safety of the North, the Manafolks heard of the events that struck the Kingdom of Cotton. To make sure they wouldn't replicate the mistake of their once brothers, they learnt the social intricacies of the Dragons and trained their diplomats in these ways. The Dragons were pleased, and so far maintain a cordial relationship with the Kingdom of Mana.
The Three Countries of the Northern OceanAs the explorers went further and further north, some islands became too far out of reach for the Kingdom of Mana to have a meaningful influence. As a result three new countries were founded in the further north, by ambitious Manafolks who had ideas of their own for a country. Some fled persecution, others had idealistic dreams, while others harbored dangerous ambitions.
These three countries are:
- Sarbreris, the Archipelago of the Free. It was founded by criminals and political dissidents who fled the Kingdom of Mana. Weak and without influence, they are content being left alone.
- Oceanus, the Alliance of Explorers. Once a guild of Northsailors, it settled in the north to be free from the regulations of the Kingdom of Mana. They are growing into a powerful hub of trade.
- Raktor, the Country of Warriors. Created when a warlike branch of the military revolted after the Kingdom of Mana assumed a defensive stance, and even opened diplomatic channels with the Draconic Empire of the Fork. Powerful and dangerous, they are grabbing more land and their resources in order to topple the Kingdom of Mana.
As a memento of their past, the Kingdom of Mana is now called Esulom, Kingdom of Mana.
Sky-Veil: Eaten by the North
When the North fled to the skies, it sought refuge in the Sky-Veil, infecting it with the Unknowable. It caused the veil to become further obscured, causing great patches of lightless dark to appear in the veil. Watching too long at these patches cause severe amnesia and loss of knowledge due to the powers of the Unknown being carried by the light of the Sky-Veil.
THETHIRDSUN works hard to pluck and clear out this infection, but it seems to be growing and spreading faster than THETHIRDSUN can clear it. All this blackening has weakened THETHIRDSUN.
As a note, the Mana Cores have settled in the Sky-Veil after the Dragons overtook Gempria. They followed after the initiative of the blessed Mana Cores.
Minor Events
Reports of Unknowable Dragons have stopped. Rumours say they went extinct when the North turned into the Ocean of Mana.
The Giant Snakes ate the smaller Snakes to extinction after they were chased from their lands by the Dragons.
The Fireproof Trees are threatened with extinction due to their forests being cleared to build cities and homes for the Dragons.
INTERLOPERS TURN
Two Interlopers manifest themselves this turn. And then a third appears too.
The first one is wielding a bow made from the bones of a moon monster. It is unaligned, and calls itself a Slayer.
It offers to gift the knowledge of moon-slaying arrows to all mortals. In exchange, it asks that you accept a baby Lago-Moon in the World, and protects it with a blessing until it turns adult.
The second one is draped in banners of wars, and an ally of Monarch who once conspired along with them in a revolt against the forces of their world.
He offers Monarch a Major Intervention.
In addition, he requests to all God-kings to craft for him a mortal champion that will serve as model for a future army.
The Interloper will come back in two Cycles to see said mortal champions, and have them fight in a battle to the death.
The third one is carrying a torch, and is a friend of Tim who helped them ascend to their first Godhood.
He offers Tim a Major Intervention.
In addition, he will send a rain of fire on all the creations of the world that do not worship Tim.
Protecting something from the rain of fire will require a Minor or Major Intervention depending on the scope.
