Cycle 2: Birth of Music
In the second cycle the Weighturge, Planturge, Cleanurge, Mindurge, Wealthurge, Machineurge, Moulturge, Combattechurge are active.
Taking up a new hobby of interior design, the Weighturge hangs up some curtains to hide the looming stress of all that is still uncreated weighing constantly on the urgic mind, frazzling their creative will with the constant demand of doing more. It feels much better now with that out of sight.
A sky is born! The Combattechurge fires some lazors at the curtains, setting parts of it on fire, which is totally cool because it was designed to do that, promise, filling the sky with stars and promise.
The Planturge plucks the largest tree from the Forest Moon, and feeds it tonnes of performance enhancing drugs, allowing it to bulk up into a giant tree. The very big tree's roots crazily snake outward, eventually sinking into the Wall of Akasha, its taproot digging directly into one of the burning stars, strange alchemies allowing it to tap energy from the star to sustain itself.
Satisfied with this, the Plant-Urge hangs the Forest-Moon on one of the large fir-tree's branches, like some sort of overpriced tree decoration. The entire giant tree bends over under the massive weight, being quite a bit smaller than the Forest-Moon.
However, some birds also accidentally ingested the drugs dregs, and underwent quite different transformation. Mutating wildly they became cancerous fishlike creatures, that fled into the Filth-rivers to escape the mocking gazes of their former brethren. There they swim and grow amongst bile and pus, feasting on the unclean fluids, multiplying into schools of scum, the occasional entropic beasts who can endure the filth-rivers hunting them.
The Wealthurge arts and crafts several bejewelled, expired credit cards into a vast planetary shield to protect the Golden Orb. It is simultaneously made entirely of both energy, gemstones and paradox. Finally, the Wealthurge could keep out the filth flowing in from the Mop Bucket. Sadly, the Wealthurge failed to take into account that the origin of the Golden Orb Filth River is on the Golden Orb, and it flows towards the Mop Bucket, not from the Mop Bucket towards the Golden Orb, and thus the Jewelled Shield fails entirely in keeping out the filth, instead trapping it against the shield, where it steadily flows into a filth lake, incrementally blotting out the sky from the ground below under a layer of uncleanliness. Possibly the confusion was caused by how the rivers came into existence or some inaccurate summaries.
Feeling quite clever, the Machineurge creates the Nots inside the dark hole at the centre of the Well of Akasha that is all that is in an attempt to subvert the prophecy of Doom. These incredibly dense gravity robots can freely move through the incredible pressures and weights of the dark hole. Possibly everything is now doomed to become a single combined Not per the
Adversary's prophecy. Tragically, the Nots are
not immune to nothing, and casualties are high as many of them accidentally wander into the core of the dark hole and are cleansed, before they learn to avoid the taboo region.
The Cleanurge attempts to create a book,
All that Is, without actually creating it. Needless to say, the book is not created. Which possibly means a new Not is born. The Cleanurge then attempts to copy and throw the copies of the non-existent book into the dark hole. Nothing grows slightly.
Perhaps moved by the plight of the Nots succumbing to nothing, the Mindurge dips their quill into the metaphysical oddness beginning to concentrate in the Well of Akasha and uses the ink to pen a new law upon the reality paper of the area. The Law of Conservation of Consciousness ensures that the sum total of awareness remains unchanged, even as it is transferred and added together or divided away. The Mindurge attempts to write the law into a larger volume, but the ink runs dry and the quill cracks. A most ill omen.
As some stupider Nots accidentally wander into the taboo, a most dramatic transformation occurs. The pure Nothing at the centre of the Well has been sullied with tawdry consciousness! Its conceptual purity is breached! The
Adversary cackles madly, beating its many cancerous flippers and rolling its blind unseeing eyes.
Nothing stirs...Perhaps inspired by the Mindurge's metaphysical trickery, the Machineurge once again takes up their clockwork hammer. Burning with a hatred of halves, they wildly smash at the Mop Bucket, eventually managing to transform it into a Thirded Mop Bucket. Success?
The Cleanurge sees potential in some of the filth-fish, and uplifts them into the first of the Mer-Maids. These maidenly maids swim through the filth-rivers, swallowing up their filth, filtering it and releasing clean water from their skin. The mer-maids grow larger and larger from the filth accumulated inside of them until eventually, old and corpulent, minds and bodies filled with bigotry and hatred, they lash out at the other mer-maids until they wander alone for their twilight months. Then in a final moment of clarity, they dive from the mop bucket into one of the burning Wall-Stars beneath it, cremating away all dirtiness they had accumulated inside themselves. Their accumulated virtue rises back up and settles into any eggs wise mer-maids may have lain nearby, fertilizing them and fathering the next generation. Sometimes, growing irritated by their irksome elders, pro-active mermaids attempt to drive the old and internally dirty to an early burning, but no eggs hatch from such burnings, and so the Mer-Maids have learnt to tolerate their crotchety old crones as best they can until they auto-terminate.
The Mer-Maids have begun to develop odd philosophical ideas which see motion and time as illusory, perhaps influenced by the strange rules of motion within the Mop Bucket.
Satisfied with how well their first maids work, the Cleanurge decides to expand their franchise, pinching some barren flying islands and stillborn android reproductions, fashioning them into the Spatium-Maids. These strange, focused, obsessive creatures, constantly scan the skies for things which should not be, while moving in elegant looping dances and singing long low whalesongs. When they spot some trash or filth, they dance towards it, and then blast it with sonics until it is pushed into the Well.
Soon enough, the melted slag that was once a space-mirror is removed from existence. Several Spatium-Maids have also spotted Facility 0001 and judging it to be trash, are slowly redirecting its wild course to fall into the Dark Hole. Some Spatium-Maids have identified the Particular Nebula as a large cloud of dust, and thus attempted to clean it up. While their sonics proved quite effective against the Particular Thought, the cosmic mind was simply too vast for them, and they were forced to retreat as it began to close in on them.
Spatium-Maid attempts to redirect the filth-rivers into the Well have so far been completely fruitless.
Attempts by the Akashic Brood to woo the new, alluring meteors are complicated by their own slow, stately motion and slow stately thought making it extremely difficult for them to catch up with the Spatium-Maids, or communicate with them. Eventually however, appreciating the songs of the Maids, some Broodlings begun to modify their own sonar to complement, in spatial duets. Intrigued by this, some Spatium-Maids investigate, but usually don't stay too long, not having the patience for the long slow conversations of the Broodlings.
Still, as the Spatium-Maids begin to age and even their immaculate visages begin to falter and wither. Some strange Mindurge begins to compel, and eventually they crash into the Akashic Brood that had best courted them with its owns songs, destroying both in a fantastic fireworks explosion. Shooting out from these explosions are several hundred giant stone eggs.
Curiously, Another Sun is well-disposed towards the eggs, and its caring gaze warms and nurtures them until they hatch into strange Brood-Maid hybrids. Several times the size, but slower than their maid-parents, they are clad in fire, but otherwise take most after their maid parentage. While this destructive reproduction will eventually doom the Brood to extinction, they will live on in through their offspring perhaps.
These Brood-Maids seem to be singing elaborate plans with the remaining Spatium-Maid first generation about how to end the Particular Dust Cloud once and for all.
The Combattechurge, once more donning its guise of a mecha, approaches the thriving Wardroid settlement, which have already captured several groups of androids, some having converted to the Wardroid cause, but most remaining stubbornly loyal to their original programming, and thus serving as slave labour. Though their solar forges ceased functioning when the infinite energy ball was consumed by the
Adversary, they had large stockpiles of equipment before the beginning of the Long Twilight, and recently dug deeply enough to begin tapping into the flaming heart of the Golden Orb.
Combattechurge speaks to the Wardroid ruling council about a hidden treasure house, which contains valuable secrets and vast machineries of production, which would ensure prosperity for the Wardroids forevermore. And finally unchain the puzzle of their reproduction, allowing them to cover the Golden Orb with their armies.
Gathering up most of their forces in a vast host, the Wardroids follow the Mecha into the golden metal desert in sacred pilgrimage to the promised Research Facility 4215. It takes years of travel, where some begin to doubt and question, but they are all silenced by being stomped beneath the feet of the Combattechurge mecha. Finally, the Wardroid expedition reaches Research Facility 4215. And Research Facility 4215. And Research Facility 4215. And Research Facility 4215. Wetly glistening in the light of distant stars and a dark sun, still covered in undried blood from their corruption. There is some hesitation due to the ominous aura flowing from the facilities in waves, but the Wardroids had learnt not to question Combattechurge through painful lessons, and stepped into the open yawning maws of the facilities to grasp their destiny.
Their servos overheated from wildly smashing the Mop Bucket, the Machineurge arrives just as the Wardroids entered. Relieved that they are just in time, and intimately familiar with the information architecture of the... facilities, the machineurge programs a virus to wipe anything praising the
Adversary from the archives, and then takes out a can of spraypaint to fix the other most glaring issue about the facilities.
As the wardroids enter the facilities, shining lights guide them into class rooms and learning pods and information projecting chairs. Bands snap into place, doors slam shut, and eventually all the Wardroids are trapped inside the research facilities, so that they can
learn, the facilities finally able to teach as they were designed to do long ago by their Demiurge.
The dark knowledge that the
Adversary seeded Research Facility 4215 with was not vainglorious praise, nor the art of war whose tools the facilities cannot produce, but large amounts of supremely convincing nihilistic rhetoric, positing that existence is meaningless, and prolonging your life merely prolongs your suffering. In short, the new educational program of Research Facility... 4217 tries to drive its students to suicide.
Nearly all the Wardroid pilgrims kill themselves with jury-rigged goldfall traps, or more elaborate devices constructed with the aid of the facilities, soon after.
With over three quarters of its most faithful adherents dead by their own hand, the Wardroid movement is all but wiped out. Some stubborn hardliners resisted the forceful imprinting of suicidal ideation, but they are no longer mentally stable as a result of the hardships they had to endure. They frequently lash out and fall into violence among themselves. But having survived the baptism of Research Facility knowledge, they are now cleared to make use of the laboratories and production facilities.
Drawing on their preprogrammed knowledge, and the facilities' capabilities, the surviving Wardroids have managed to construct the first droid producing factory, some distance away from rampantly reproducing Research Facilities. It produces a first batch of barbaric, hyperviolent Wardroids, who falls into infighting with the original Wardroids. Given they are unarmoured, and with the blatant weakpoints of droids, the new droids are quickly defeated, but the Hardliner Wardroids are reluctant to produce more hyperviolent malcontents and thus further production is halted. Attrition to suicide and murder continues to dwindle the remaining group of survivors.
Having finished spray-painting "5"s into "7"s the Machineurge eagerly snatches up the corpses as the Wardroids look on aghast, and salvages several useful components before beginning to extrude complex pieces of machinery from internal factories. Placing Refineries 0006 and 0007 on the Golden Orb so that they form an equilateral triangle with the Research Facilities, and Refineries 0008 and 0009 in Filth-Rivers. These shining urgic machines can consume unwanted material, as defined by their operators, to produce useful building material.
The Mer-Maids eventually discover Refinery 0009, using it to consume the filth of the river and produce water and wood. They use the wood to create sharp spears to help them in their hunts of the Entropic Beasts, on which the Mer-Maids eagerly feast when they can catch them, and to construct large waterslides down to the Defence Stations, which the Mer-Maids have long been curious about.
With the combination of the Mermaids' own efforts and Refinery 0009, the Forestmoon filthriver has been largely cleansed, being merely very muddy. Thanks to the Jewelled Shield, the Energyball filthriver is the only one still staining the Mop Bucket's once crystal clear, now tarnished waters.
In the wake of the Wardroid disaster, as Droid kills Droid, perhaps in echo to the strife on its surface, a new race gnaws their way free from the dismembered heart of the Golden Orb. The Goldenrattus, rats of the same size of the droids, as cunning as they are greedy. Giving in to their burning desire to devour, they immediately begin to gnaw away at the gold around them, their insane desire to consume overpowering everything else.
The continues for several generations, until the Wealthurge, perhaps belatedly noticing their existence, steps in. Wealthurge enlightens the Goldenrattus to the ideals of capitalism and intellectual consumerism. Gold, due to its massive overabundance, is soon deemed worthless, and only the poorest and dimmest Goldenrattus still gnaw on it.
The other, enlightened Goldenrattus, organize themselves into a hierarchical society, sending out frequent expeditions to capture Androids and Entropic Beasts, both rare, and thus valuable, commodities. Androids are seen as particularly precious and irreplaceable. These captured chattel are then kept in cages gnawed out of gold. A rodent's position in the hierarchy is determined by how many Androids and Entropic Beasts are owned.
However, ownership is quite fluid, since the Goldenrattus usually rapidly sell and buy their assets to each other in consumerism-capitalism feasts, which leave the participating Goldenrattus obesely fat, as they overfeed on the act of acquiring and re-acquiring wealth rapidly.
The Goldenrattus attempted to convert the Wardroid settlement to the ways of capitalism, but were unprepared to take on the armoured and weapon-wielding Wardroids, becoming enslaved instead of enslaving. Still the skeleton crew of Wardroids left behind at their original settlement are vastly outnumbered by the Goldenrattus, and their fall and following slavery seems an inevitability.
The Goldenrattus have discovered Refinery 0007, and are operating it to turn worthless gold into valuable concrete, with which, in extravagant consumption, they are constructing their first proper city, "Concrete".
Several Androids who have been captured by the Goldenrattus have been mentally designing devices to keep the Goldenrattus safe. The current most prevalent idea is a giant wire-frame hamster ball made of gold. Some Goldenrattus agreed to try constructing one to humour their docile, extremely rare, and thus extremely valuable, property, but the balls have been deemed impractical for general usage, and thus are prized status symbols for the hyper-wealthy to roll through the streets of Concrete with, crushing any plebs who are not quick enough to get out of the way. The Androids are dismayed at how their tools of safekeeping have been misused.
The Wealthurge speaks to the
Adversary.
”Tell me Adversary, eventually you will be beneath me and eventually bought, anything can be bought with enough power, enjoy our current time as equals”"
An eclectic collection of empty begging bowls laugh hollowly, "
There's nothing for me to tell you, as that is not a question, but a ludicrous statement of intent you brainless cretin. How are you still functioning? I would have expected you to go comatose after you ripped out your brain along with your heart. I shudder with relief that you are very much my lesser, just as I remain surprised at your continued brainless activity."
Feeling sympathy for the
Adversary needing to interact with all these trying Demiurges, the Mindurges constructs for the \
Adversary\, a creature who loves and values the
Adversary unconditionally, and constantly reminds them of this. The
Adversary begins incoherently screeching again. "
You are valued, you are loved."
The Weighturge issues a pronouncement which pretty much everyone hears, except the birds, who are deaf and tone-deaf. "The change of the status quo pleases the Weighty One. Even the Adversary pleases it, for it's actions inspire change. Struggle, toil, rise up against the Wieght. Dethrone all in your struggle for survival. So speaks the hammer-drunk to all. Hoo-la!"
This spawns a new sect among the Goldenrattus, who believe weight holds intrinsic value. Most of their members are incredibly fat, and thus tend to be short-lived. It inspires a slave revolt among and androids and Goldenrattus against the skeletoncrew Wardroids, which is quickly and violently put down. Mer-Maid philosophers craft several theories about what hammers, drunkenness, and hammer-drunkenness actually are and what was really meant by the divine utterance. Most of them involve time and motion. Another Sun crashes into the Wall of Akasha, getting stuck in place. It seems to be trying to melt a hole through the Wall.
Some Akashic Brood confusedly follow Another Sun, only to get caught in the gravity of the Wall of Akasha, slamming into it with great force, and getting trapped, their motive power insufficient to free them.
The Not name the Taboo 'Wieght'. The Dark Hole fluctuates ejecting large numbers of Not. The Spatium-Maids are uneasy about things escaping from what they had previously viewed as a foolproof trashcan, and begin to destroy the Not with concerted sonic scrubbings.
The Mop Bucket has become sentient. The filth rivers have become sentient. Refineries 0008 and 0009 have become sentient. The Jeweled Shield has become sentient. The Jeweled Shield blocks Particular movement towards the Golden Orb. A giant tree was sentient (and insane) since before its enlargement. The Forest Moon rises to full sentience. The Wall begins to flicker with sparks of awareness. Some Wall-Stars are sentient. Most flying islands are sentient. Wooden tools and constructions of the Mer-maids become sentient. Defense Station V0.1 (Alpha) No.1 - No.6 become sentient.
Animism is dominant.Knowing that the best way to fight fire is with more fire, Combattechurge commissions an expensive, finicky boondoggle to deal with the Defense Station V0.1 (Alpha) No.1 situation. The Fractabomber mk1 is mechanical bird of prey designed to keep the Defense Station V0.1 (Alpha) No.1 herd in check, selectively implanting them with their eggs to produce more Fractabombers. The first Fractabomber easily converted their first prey into another Fractabomber. This alarms the remaining, sentient Defence Stations, and they stop passively resisting the investigations of the Mer-Maids, and instead aiding them in gaining entry, and begin to instruct them on how to operate the Defence Stations.
Thus began an incredibly flashy war in Under-Mop-Bucket-Heaven, powerful lazor beams flashing everywhere, flash-boiling megalitres of water, carving great scars across the Wall of Akasha, and sending the various spatial motiles to scurrying to hide on the far side of the Well. Eventually the Fractabombers managed to seed one more defence station, but after several grazing shots, retreated to reconsider their options. Of course, this was completely the wrong move, as it just allowed the Defence Stations to build up their numbers and destroy the infected station before it could turn. The Fractabombers, run and rerun their tactical algorithms, convinced they
should be winning against the Defence Stations, after all that is what they were designed for, but somehow are not. Most concerning. Perhaps just a numbers game?
Seeming to suffer from a creative block, perhaps brought on by the Wall of Akasha hiding away the infinite uncreation which the Moulturge used to pressure themselves into being constructive, the Moulturge creates nothing this turn. They do spend some time cataloguing and studying the varieties of entropic beast however. There are a myriad myriad varieties of entropic beast.
On the Forest Moon, they have been hunted to complete extinction by the hungry birds, when they stopped receiving new infusions from a being.
On the Golden Orb, one entropic beast was lucky enough to be born with mutations that gave it the ability to steadily produce acid. It used this ability to sink down into the gold, until it gradually neared the burning heart of the planet. Finally achieving proximity to a source of vast energy, it could begin to reproduce just as its parent did, causing a never-ending river of entropic beasts to flow from the Doompit and rampage across the Golden Orb, until they are captured by the Goldenrattus to be used as currency-property.
In the Mop-Bucket, the Mer-Maids view the entropic beasts as a delicacy, and eagerly hunt and feast on them. Fortunately, while being hunted, some entropic beasts fell through the bottom of the Mop Bucket onto the Wall below. Eventually some of them wandered close to a star, and then like their deceased parent, a being, began to reproduce, showering dandruff flakes into the Mop-Bucket above. These entropic beasts are merely wild animals, hunted by the Mer-Maids who are glad for a never-ending supply of delicious food.
Arkship 0004 and Arkship 0005 have secured populations of Goldenrattus, who have failed to gnaw their way free and filth-fish, and Mer-Maids in special water-tanks. They have decided to not try and secure specimens of Spatium-Maids, Brood-Maids or Fractabombers.
The Well of Akasha increases in weight. In reaction to this, the Wall of Akasha also increases in weight, but is unable to keep pace with the Well. The Wall is contracted inwards. The orbit of the Golden Orb begins to degrade, the Well looming steadily larger in their sky. The Forest Moon is ripped free from the Giant Tree, which is not giant enough to retain it and begins to orbit the Well. The Giant Tree gets stretched upwards, its roots straining, but manages to retain its position. Several flying islands are lost into the Well, with the rest soon to follow. The Mop Bucket quivers ominously.

The
Adversary will now Destroy, Corrupt and Doom. The
Adversary will Destroy four times and Corrupt four times and Doom once.
The
Adversary merges with the willing and supportive \
Adversary\, thus ending the latter's independent existence.
In their guise of the Infinite Ball of Energy that will definitely never run out, the
Adversary boils away the much reduced Mop Bucket, destroying it entirely. Those Mermaids who don't become cooked, huddle away in the rivers or aboard the Defence Stations. Bereft of the Mop Bucket's matter, the Defence Stations have begun consuming the Wall of Akasha to reproduce themselves. The Muddy River and Filth river flow to the roots of the Giant Tree, which eagerly drinks up the moisture, clean and unclean, bringing about certain unpredictable changes to the insane tree...
Androids petrify into inanimate statues, their owners are mortified at the loss of value and labour.
Suddenly civil-war erupts within the Cosmic Particular as the grand hivemind begins fracturing! It only ends when the nebula cloud, reduced from constant fighting, splits into three much smaller clouds, which taking into account Particular Thought present everywhere else, has halved the population. The Spatium-Maids regard the more vulnerable dust clouds with a burning gaze and cleaning fervour in their hearts.
Suddenly the Forest Moon begins to plunge towards the Well of Akasha at high speeds! Feeling inadequate and ashamed due to the disharmonious noise made by its avian inhabitants as compared to the surrounding meteors and comets, the Forest Moon has decided to end its own existence. Drastic intervention is required to avert the Forest Moon's
Doom, as it steadily builds up momentum, making it unable to avert its destined course.
The Brood-Maids learn important lessons from the four thousand two hundred and fifteen faced truth-rock, many of them becoming heralds of
nothing. They see anything except pure vacuum as filth to be cleansed. They gain strange non-powers that can erase things from existence, though fortunately they need to recover for several months after using it. They have started working together with the Spatium-Maids and other Brood-Maids to clear out the Particular Thought Nebula, increasing their influence and the popularity of their beliefs.
The Fractabombers receive some tactical advice from a kindly toothless Defence Contractor, and chase the Arkships towards the Golden Orb, before seeding them. The 0004 and 0005 Arkships, hovering above the Golden Orb, waiting for their pursuers to leave, transform into two more Fractabombers, pulping their preserved populations in the process of transformation. The new Fractabombers begin a grid pattern search of the Golden Orb for more Mechanical targets to convert. The two original Fractabombers begin to approach Research Facility 0001.
The Jewelled Shield downloads and installs a mandatory update. Now only those who forsake all material possessions and swear a binding oath to abandon the pursuit of material wealth can pass through it. Additionally it begins to contract at a snail's pace. However, the Wealthurge managed to cancel further updates before their ability to give passage through the Jewelled Shield was patched as a security hole.
The Giant Tree suddenly begins taking a far more active role in acquiring more matter to fuel its growth, its branches mutating into sundew-like tentacles. These sway parsecs away, occasionally managing to capturing an Akashic Broodling or Flying Island, which the Giant Tree consumes, growing ever so slightly larger so it can reach slightly further to try and snatch away more things to eat.
