"These ones keep their distance, and so do we! Continue on course, and inform the crew to be ready for trouble!"

"Aye, sir."

It is a tense whole hour as the crew is roused from their sleep and made to prepare for the attack of the mermaids or any other sort of confrontation.

But the three mermaids - sometimes two, when one or another dips into the sea for a while - accompany Santa Julia with no ill intent.

It is when the sky starts to grey that the Mermaids, one by one, sink into the waters and leave the ship alone.

15th Midwinter
Afternoon
North of Pointas, Coast of Columbia

The sudden bout of yelling and commotion makes you leave the cabin to ascertain the situation.

"What's happening!"

"Captain, I just saw it happen!" Says the Navigator standing by the steering wheel, pointing at the port side where sailors have gathered, two of them throwing ropes.

"One of the topmen just started screaming, punched his fellow and jumped from the rigging, straight into the sea! More crew gathers on top deck as you approach the port side.

Ultimately, the crew as unable to rescue Topman Guidado, who, as it seems, dissappeared in the water with no trace of him. A while later the First Mate arrives to report, with the Surgeon in tow.

"We've talked with other topmen. Guidado said that the ship is doomed, and the mermaids will kill us all, and he won't end his life in their toothy maws."

"Madness gripped him."

"Aye, it doesn't help that the sailors were awake and told to prepare for the worst tonight. But our Surgeon might have a solution." Rio nods his head.

"Captain, it came to my attention that we have Redleaf in our holds. It's known for its potency to calm even the most agitated minds, even those spooked by horrors of the depths. I could have our cook serve them redleaf tea to go with their usual meals, at least until we reach Palovilas and they can relax on the shore."

"How much you need?"

"I could do with as little as one Sack of Redleaf, Captain."

A) "Alright."
B) "That's cargo for Lusitania. You've got other medicines bought lately, try something different."

A - 370 ducats to ensure no more crew go nuts. Seems reasonable. That guy's saved wages does mean we can afford a bag or two of Sugar at the next port...

"Alright."

"Thank you Captain."

"Come, Rio, I will accompany you to Purser."

17th Midwinter
Morning
Palovilas, Karibs Islands

Quote from: Purser's Ledger
Wages:
2 Ducats per Sailor a Day for 135 Sailors over 3 Days from Pointas to Palovilas: 810 Ducats

When the ship sets its anchor down by the docks of Palovilas, some of the sailors are especially eager to set foot on land, but discipline and order is maintained.

"We're at last in Palovilas, this soothes my heart."

"And at good timing, too. I'm down to handful of leaves." The Purser and Surgeon climb the stairs onto the top deck after you, while First Mate stops his chat with the Navigator and approaches you.

"Captain, I wonder if it might be prudent to give the crew one day of ashore stay."

"I think this might be a good idea."

"We would still need to pay them a daily wage, though, when we reach next port."

"I'm confident our ship can reach Lusia way ahead of schedule, good friends!" The Navigator chimes in from behind the steering wheel.

"What's your orders, Captain?"

A) "We shall stay overnight in Palovilas."
B) "Time is of essence, the faster we return, the better!"

A- Worst case, a large chunk of crew jumps ship and we don't have to pay their wages.

"We shall stay overnight in Palovilas."

"Thank you."

"I will inform the crew in a moment, Captain. But after we disembark, should our first step be visiting the local company man, or the market?"

"His name is Fernando Equitas, a pleasant old man but rarely a source of information." The Purser explains while the Surgeon makes his way below deck.

A) "To the Company Man!"
B) "To the market!"
C) "We're just staying here a day."
