(which might be relevant if we have to pay wages, I don't know if we do)
As per the OP, we do!

Honestly, the Julia is just the Beatriz multiplied by 7/8.
We are on the same wave length here.

Edited some math, it’s multiplied by 15/8, or has the equivalent of 7/8 added to it. Not multiplied by 7/8, that’d be having only 35 cargo space and the like.

The point is, get the Julia.

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

Especially as we have to pay wages per port, so we could be financially destroyed if we don't manage to fill our ship.

"My ship will be Santa Julia." The Company Master nods.

"Hundred fifty sailors. Six voyages to the Karibs in last three years, all profitable. Only once accosted by pirates, which her crew fended off. Truly blessed by her namesake saint." He scribbles down on some parchment and then readies himself to dip the quill in the inkwell.

"What level of armaments interests you for Santa Julia and her sailors?"

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Also, I have considered the matter of your voyage with our accountants, especially the fact that you're allowed to trade in precious metals. The Company is thus ready to supply your voyage with four hundred thousand Ducats for sailor wages and procurement of trade goods in the Karibs."

As for the armaments...

A) "We can easily make do with Meager ones."
B) "Adequate armaments are named thus for a reason."

As for the voyage money...

A) "That is a fair amount."
B) "I would like to negotiate a different amount..."

I believe the nice fellow told us it would be a two month round trip, which would lead to approximately 18,000 Ducats in Wages. I would assume that any armaments unused can just stay aboard/be returned to the Conpany at cost so I would prefer B. Adequate Armaments.

Also, I have no idea how much Precuous Metals will cost, so if thus guy thinks 400k is enough, I'll trust him. A. That is a fair amount.

You ask for Adequate armaments and respond that 400.000 Ducats is enough of an investment.

"Splendid." The Company Master quickly enshrines your decisions on the parchment. "In few days' time, I will send for you to show you the ship and acquaint you with the crew. By then we should also have the cargo ready."

6th Early Winter

The Lusian Port is... not very busy. The dark clouds overhead and chilling wind effectively scares most traders and sea-goers to wait somewhere warm and comfy for warmer, sunnier days.

Company Master Pablo Afonso de Amiencafaya takes you down the wharfs to Santa Julia, a Ship smaller than several Galeons and Traders anchored nearby.

"Here she is." He leads you to the boarding plank, and several crewmen descend from the ship.

"Luis de Panama, your first mate. Alberto de Sota, your navigator. Xavier d'Albaret, your Frankish purser. Hermann Schmidt, your Saxon gunner. Alejandro Rio, your doctor." The men shake your hand, one after another.

"These officers will help you during your voyage to Karibs and back when you're their Captain." The Company Master is then taken aside by a newly arrived courtier.

"We've finished loading the cargo and our men are securing it below deck. The holds are full, sir." Says the First Mate.

"Same for cannonballs, muskets, gunpowder and white arms. Good to know we will be properly armed for this voyage." Says the Gunner.

"Good monsieur," The Purser chimes in. "Let me show you the ship's ledger, so that you're aware of the Company goods we're taking for this voyage..."

"You all have been in Karibs before, I wager?"

"Aye, sir. We've been back and forth a few times, myself specially included, and Hermann. We've heard it is your first voyage there. Mayhaps you have questions to ask?"

A) "I'm a metal trader. Where are the gold and silver mines located?"
B) "What was your usual route and your usual Captain?"
C) "What Trade Goods of the Karibs we might expect in Winter to be aplenty?"
D) "Are the seas rough and dangerous in the Karibs?"

Surely this is our main thing:

A) "I'm a metal trader. Where are the gold and silver mines located?"

"I'm a metal trader. Where are the gold and silver mines located?"

"Ah, there's one in Las Argentas, for it was named after silver deposits there. There's also a gold mine in Fedeira, an island in Karibs Proper. We know, we've been there twice."

"There's also mining of silver being done in Copana, I've heard."

"But if it is metals we're be taking in Karibs on this Voyage, most of the heavy industry is on Coast of Columbia. The Captain's cabin has a map. We will help you plan our trip once we embark."

A) "What was your usual route and your usual Captain?"
B) "Are the seas rough and dangerous in the Karibs?"
C) "What Trade Goods of the Karibs we might expect in Winter to be aplenty?"
D) "That's all I needed to know."

"What Trade Goods of the Karibs we might expect in Winter to be aplenty?"

"Bitterfruit has its second crop in Winter. It's quite valuable as a brew. There's also Crimsonpeel, a dye, and Redleaf, for brewing of teas, both having their harvests coming to a close in next few weeks. And Spicebark, a sweet-smelling tree bark."

"If anything else is scarce, there's always Sugar we could fill our hold with. It's inexpensive to buy and its usual harvesttimes in Karibs are about to begin, but we can't expect to score large profits on Sugar alone."

"In Autumn, however, when we had a trip once, we were able to get large quantities of Blackspice and Brownpod and even some Puffcloth, all three very valuable to Lusitanian royals and merchants. I wager if we're fast enough, there might be still some on the markets there ready for shipping."

"Alright."

A) "What goods did Santa Julia carry on your trips?"
B) "What was your usual route and your usual Captain?"
C) "Are the seas rough and dangerous in the Karibs?"
D) "That's all I needed to know."

B.
Might as well ask what the "usual" routes were, because those are either going to be the ones Pirates are watching, or the ones pirates emphatically *aren't* watching.

"What was your usual route and your usual Captain?"

"We have two. First to Madus south of Lusitania, and then along the trade winds we would reach Ursinio, and Grand Urso."

"We would sell most of our alcohol there, getting some Chewleaf, Brownpod, Spicebark..."

"Then to Sebastias, one of two largest ports in Karibs."

"Never failed to sell whatever alcohol and textiles from home we've still had. We would load on Blackspice and Puffcloth, mostly."

"Then to Mediana, on northern side, or Pavas, or both."

"To fill our holds with Greenspice and Crimsonpeel, if need be."

"Or we would go southwards from Madus, to Capus." The Navigator explains. "Then take the winds so we would anchor at Saint Marco or Saint Alonso islands, for Bitterfruit, Redleaf and Sugar."

"Aye. Once upon a time we've went west from Sebastias, to Costas."

"Indigo and Sweetpod there aplenty, but worth the hassle. And Fedeira, second biggest port, along the island's coast, for Bitterfruit and Spicebark if we haven't enough."

"It was a day west from Fedeira when the pirate Ship came upon us. But it was smaller, of lesser load." The Gunner crosses his arms.

"Exchanged shots, we did, first cannon then musket. But they're realized we ain't easy to grab, so they disengaged wit'out aboardage."

"Captain Lapeira decided not to press our luck, so we made along the winds northwards, to stop at Saint Maria for repairs."

"Either Saint Maria or Pavas is usually the last stop before you go north and to Homeward Islands. To Westeros, if you've got time, or straight across the ocean to Azuria if you're feeling brave. And from there, it is few days trip eastbound here, to Lusia."

"And that's how we did went to Karibs and back."

In the meanwhile, whatever the chat Company Master had with the courtier, has ended; the courtier and the Company Master seem inclined to talk with you.

A) "Where's Captain Lapeira? In good health, I hope and presume?"
B) "Are the seas rough and dangerous in the Karibs?"
C) "That's all I need to know - it seems our Master has a word to say!"
