The World

There is one animal that is becoming a bit too intelligent for safety. And due to that very same creature, the ecosystem of Bir Shallows is about to collapse. There are giant domes everywhere.

Hardened Dropbass, Pelagic Sylangoes, Burrowing Spermsquid, Screaming Pancod, Redspotted Hexturtle are extinct.

We have our first apex!

Look guys, gonna be honest with you. Situation with poison fishies is going to go from bad to worse.

Sapience is not a very special thing. Elephants, whales and crows are also sapient. Being sapient only means that a creature has a sense of self.

But when we talk about sapience in this context, the correct term would be "sophonence". Sophonence is a whole another thing. It can only appear when these pre-requisites are fulfilled. They don't have to be all separately adapted. One can make the other automatically appear; as in, species with hands gaining high intelligence will automatically get primitive tool use.

1: High enough brainpower.
2: The ability to use this brainpower to express and exhance ideas.
3: Ability to comprehend oneself and other such abstract concepts.
4: Extensive tool use and mastery of own environment.

Carriercovies have 1 and 2, and half of the 4. If brangerlon decides to expand its brain one more time, it will go up to 4.

I really cannot guarantee what will happen after.

I will still use the word sapience for the phenomenon to not cause unnecessary nuance.

Well..

Fluttering Cuttlecovy
Develop upon it's Size. (As one failed.) A mass greater than a teardrop, as we have the digestion system to support it.
Expand upon its fin-tentacles, carrying long thin grasp-suckers with a needle on the end to inject sedative.
Expand upon it's mind, increasing it's brain's ability to develop solutions to hunting.
SS Roll: Speciation Event: Send to Bir Shallows and Uch Shallows

Entire ecosystem is about to collapse, but eh.
