The commands for adventure mode.
« on: March 04, 2007, 12:39:00 am »

After being forced to abandon my best fort yet, I'm trying adventure mode, but there's a problem. I have no idea what does what, and I need an explanation of every command and how to do them, as I'm literally a baby in the woods on this one.

Hopefully you mean [Numpad 4] for left.  If you're not using the numeric keypad to move around, you're dividing your movement rate by the square root of 2, because you can't make diagonal moves without it...

It's actually being divided by 2, since we aren't using the euclidean metric (that is, a diagonal movement in DF takes exactly the same time as a horizontal/vertical movement).

Yeah, it does, but "Left Arrow" refers very specifically to a certain key that's at least a few centimetres away from the numeric keypad. ;-)

Actually, depending on if numlock is turned on or off, I believe they're functionally the same to the computer.

The same keys you use to walk around should work on the travel map.  Other keys (like inventory and so on) won't work.

Yes I forgot to mention those. My real problem is I'm not able to zoom in to cities/ruins etc. Remapped > and < to something else but it won't work...

So, data/init/interface.txt contains a line:

[A_END_TRAVEL:SHIFT+PERIOD]

If you change that to something more simple, like:

[A_END_TRAVEL:D]

then you should be able to press 'd' to enter a region.  Make sure there are no other [A_END_TRAVEL:<key>] lines in the interface.txt that might override whatever you add.

Or you can hit the ? button and scroll down to 'key bindings', and it tells you what the buttons are.

I am a little frustrated.

HOW DO YOU PICK UP ARROWS????? I can only seem to get tehm back by pulling them out of corpses if them happen to stick. but what about my other 30 arrows lining the walls of the room?

unfortunately, arrows and bolts break most of the time when you fire them.  You have to get replacements or pick a new weapon.  Or club things with your bow, but that's not too effective.

What most people do is get an extra spear or two and train up throwing.  You can du around as much damage and always get your thrown weapon back once youre done fighting.
